>>36827415>MLP is a brand for primarily little girls; the movie cannot cater to adults without pushing its target ausdience aside and thus it can never ever even come close to going 100+ million.I'm going to call crap on that; You can produce quality entertainment for little girls JUST as easily as you can produce quality entertainment for boys that's also entertaining for adults.
Remember Frozen? aimed primarily at little girls, still great for adults. Hell, all disney princess movies, like mulan and the like are other shining examples.
MLP doesn't have to "cater" to little girls in any specific ways, little girls are just like little boys at this age, the ONLY difference to make it a "girls" thing is to have girl protagonists and treat them in an empowered way.
The only thing that hurt this movie was the Stigma of the MLP brand, and Advertising could have overcome that-- sadly, I still don't know what lion's gate was doing with their advertising budget, because I saw virtually zero push for this movie.
Its only reason for not doing so well is the MLP brand dragging it down, which they should have focused on trying to subvert and fight back against in advertising-- that's what advertising is FOR, spinning things properly.
I mean, look at trolls. Girls franchise, spun completely perfectly in advertising to appeal to BOTH boys and girls, did very well.
that being said, the big reason I say not to be happy about 50 million is because the budget is probably going to be 25-30 million from the leaked info I saw.
So, regardless of sandbags and handicaps, financially it NEEDS to get over 50 million to be a success, with 60-80 million being where I would have rather seen it at.
