IMO politics should only be "quarantined" to /chat/ if the thread subject is specifically about politics.
If there is a regular thread on /oat/ and the discussion gets political, it shouldn't necessarily be moved--HOWEVER, if someone intentionally tries to derail /oat/ threads with political crap that has no relation to the original subject or what people were discussing, something should be done about that.
Politics were a problem before election year, so I don't know if we should try to revert things just because election year is over. Plus, does anyone really have a problem with /chat/ being the designated politics board? It seems like it works pretty well, I mean why fix what isn't broken?
I feel like we have a good balance going right now and it would be a shame to fuck it all up for the sake of experimenting again.
