The board for discussing site related issues, questions, concerns, and suggestions.
Name?

This field is optional. You can choose any name you want, or you can post anonymously by leaving this field empty.

Tripcodes are a way to identify yourself between posts without having to register with the site. To use a tripcode, enter your name as ‹name›#‹key›.You can choose anything you want as the key—it is private and will never be shown to other posters or stored on the server. For example:

Rarity#bestpony → Rarity!.4PK7yxdII

If you want a tripcode containing specific words, you can download a program designed to search for tripcodes, such as Tripcode Explorer.

Email?

Entering an e-mail is optional.

There are also code words you can enter here which perform certain actions when you submit your post.

  • sage — lets you post without bumping a thread.
  • nonoko — uses the original post behavior to redirect to the board index.

These can be used at the same time as an e-mail address by typing ‹email›#‹action›.

You can also use Skype names in place of an e-mail. The notation is the same as a link to a username on skype itself, which is skype:‹username›

uhh so like if nobody donates is the site literally going to be shut down? this seems like an issue that warrants more than just a brief locked thread.

what exactly would be a worthwhile donation? I don't have any money right this moment but I wouldn't mind giving like 15 bucks when I can. how much does it cost to run the site monthly?

Wow this is like, astoundingly small money and Chewy is working with a $15. tax return?

I can't even pay rent, but i make enough to help if needed. I'm new here but i like this place.

If there's a shortfall that isn't covered, please contact me a few days before deadline and i'll try to pick up the slack.

it is indeed true that my tax return was only $15 dollars, however it is/was not the only money I had/have available for something like this.

I am (currently) in a situation where even if I end up completely broke (which does happen), I can still depend on my parents for the absolute necessities. So like, I can have literally zero dollars in my bank account but I'm not going to be out of food or have nowhere to live, basically.

in the long run it will not be a very sustainable lifestyle but that's okay because I have plans to improve things. but that's a whole other story. basically my point is, I don't want to be broke because of donating, but it also isn't the end of the world if I'm broke.

and I actually managed my money pretty well this month.

Chewy (Flutter)Country code: ponychan.png, country type: customflag, valid: 13997

I need to check my budget but I should be able to donate a lil again this month. Bumping to remind myself.

To be fair, they're a lot less harsh than people assume.
I feel like a lot of it's more rumor than anything.

Then again, there's rarely anything to fight over, and Moony shuts down anything that starts too much a fight.

I know exactly how harsh they are over there, I've been posting there since it's start.

Moony shutting things down before they start is PART of the harshness of it. Being harsh isn't just tough with punishment, it's being tough by shutting things down at the merest hint of trouble (thereby actually limiting the growth of a conversation into something else) rather than letting things progress and taking it as it happens.

In other words, a proactive approach can be considered just as harsh as a reactive one.

Country/etc flags on /ef/ ## ModCountry code: ponychan.png, country type: customflag, valid: 13466[View]

Mikie brought up the idea of a possible feature on /ef/: country flags, like on 4chan's /pol/ and other boards. If this is implemented, it would probably default to your country's flag, or you could set a custom one out of a list if you prefer. And the OP might have an option to disable flags in their thread. Who knows?

Would you guys be interested, or should it be left as-is?

But making the ? flag default to the Ponychan flag was a great decision btw, in light of the problems the system has right now.

I'll leave this suggestion for another user to explore. We already resurrected seven old Ponychan themes last month and added one new theme, so this is not a priority to us. That being said, if anyone here wants to make their own theme, just download one of the existing themes as a template, set the site's theme to Yotsuba B, download Stylish (Chrome/Firefox), and play with the CSS rules during your own browsing time. A well-designed theme can take about a week or two for an experienced user with CSS. We'll implement a theme you post for us if it's any good. But at this point, there's plenty of other things on our plate to do, and we really don't have the time to make more themes -- at least not now.

Firefox did a fantastic job at breaking support for this feature. It turns out that the update where you can click on the screen to pause the video prevents any click events from triggering. I ended up completely rewriting the inline image expansion script -- something I'm not entirely disappointed that I had to deal with. The old script was Tinyboard legacy code mixed with some of the oldest JavaScript work done for the site, so I'm glad it's gone now.

I had Zeke test the new script before deployment and he didn't find any issues either, so it should be working now.

AnonymousCountry code: ponychan.png, country type: customflag, valid: 13537

Can confirm. Whatever they changed in Firefox 59 that also disallowed you to minimize webms by clicking within the padding of the image doesn't break the new implementation either.

So it also works on the beta version of Firefox. Thanks a bunch of the fix

This fix seems to have introduced a new issue for me in Pale Moon. When I close an audio webm now, the audio continues to play, and if I open the webm again, a new instance of the audio starts.

How hard would it be to leave a visual indicator on a thread that's hit bumplimit, preferably one that appears when the autorefresh happens? I have no idea if this is even feasible but it'd sure help us lurking serialfags realize the action's moved to a fresh thread. Pic unrelated.

Actually I just realized that this concept would be problematic considering the way the bump behavior changes beyond the 250+ limit. Nothing actually gets bumplocked anymore except by mod intervention; all threads beyond the 250 limit just get bump-throttled in intervals of around 7-14 hours. I guess some alt text behind an icon would be a good place to explain the behavior maybe? I have to think things through better. I might set this request aside for now.

Now that i have your attention with this image, i'd like to address /site/'s standards.

Or rather, it's current lack thereof.

/site is, and i quote: "The board for discussing site related issues, questions, concerns, and suggestions."

There is discussion, but there is also a lot of ad hominem attacks and uncivil behaviour in general being thrown around.

Towards the end of /meta/'s life, we tried board-only bans for people who couldn't keep themselves civil while discussing things.

Going forward, i'm going to start issuing /site/-only bans for people who: Use ad hominem arguments, do not contribute to the discussion at hand or do so in a belligerent manner.

Concerning "Ban Evasion" and Visibility of Bans NoonimCountry code: ponychan.png, country type: customflag, valid: 13301[View]

So, a few days ago, I made the unfortunate discovery that, as it happens, the way bans are done on this site are unfortunately out of date. It is very easy to be banned, and never realize it, or to be banned and believe it to be revoked, only to get a massive increase on your ban for "evasion" that was never intended.

Now, a part of this issue could be solved by following a certain aspect of the "Site Staff Standards", but I'll leave that for another thread. Instead, I'd like to explore options to prevent these types of events in the future.
As it currently stands, the average user cannot be reasonably expected to abide a ban, when they may well not even know it exists, leaving off issues of assumed revoked bans. And, I can certainly say, getting banned for "evasion" and then worse having the lot remain despite explaining the ordeal to the administration breeds a helluva lot of animosity. I'd make the argument that it is not a healthy standard for a community.

So; how do we fix this?
It seems to me there's a few options, though unfortunately most would probably require some development.
The first, method'd be adopting a 8chan-esque "ban list", showing public bans and their duration, as well as, I believe, bans that've been revoked. Issues with this are, of course, that the bans are public. Might not be ideal, depending on your stake there.
Still leaves the issue with difficulty noticing the ban in the first place, but, at least, after you've noticed it you have a place to check. A "ban page" would also be a nice addition, as it seems currently, the only way to see the ban page is to attempt to make a post.

Another option is to link bans to names, as well. This'd be an optional addition, in most situations, I'd say, so you could obviously avoid it when made by a imitator, or an anon. This'd give you the application regardless of IP, which'd avoid issues for those of us with dynamic or multiple devices.

Another, probably shit option, is accounts. Bonus points for giving people a way to directly contact, but it's also a bit of a hassle, and goes against our usual imageboard standards.
