Cozy Glow is Best Friend !gEapIYWEa2Country code: ponychan.png, country type: customflag, valid: 36830425

Cozy Glow's evil plan is to reform Tirek! She wants to take what she learned about friendship and share it with the worst of society, as a selfless act to make Equestria a better place. Sure she's deluded and probably egomaniacal when she thinks she can succeed where everypony else failed, but if she's trying to get in her pen pal's good graces just to show what a great friend she can be, that explains everything.

She'd commit some terrible crime like sucking all the magic out of Equestria, knowing it was complete lunacy to do so, knowing that she'd get caught and defeated. She'd pretend to be totally unrepentant, and completely unhinged, (and she's really good at pretending to be what she's not), so that ponies would lock her up and throw away the key. She lied when she said she wanted to be the empress of friendship, precisely so she could get locked up with Tirek. That's why she was so triumphant in her cage there. Her goal was never to conquer Equestria, but to become the best friend anypony could possibly be, and how better to do that than to befriend the one creature who has never been a friend to anybody? And now Tirek is at her mercy, and it's only a matter of time until he submits to her friendship. Until Grogar f-ed everything up. That's how Cozy really thinks friendship works, and that's exactly what she was trying to do. There's no other explanation for her actions!

Or, y'know, she's a ruthless unhinged filly with the talent for manipulation and the intelligence and planning of a chessmaster but still the maturity and ego of a filly.

She didn't plan on getting caught. Her plan would have worked if it weren't for the Student Six and that damn tree. From there, there would be a world without magic, the mane six in Tartarus forever (she didn't know they'd get out), and she's head of the school of friendship. She's now in a very good position of power and taking over the world whilst being supported by the masses would be relatively easy.

Sure, she didn't quite get how friendship worked, and underestimated a lot of people. How many MLP villains haven't done that?

I didn't say she wasn't all those things. But it didn't make sense why she tried to destroy all the magic in Equestria, how that would possibly make her the Empress of Friendship. It didn't make sense how she failed to learn all those friendship lessons, despite being intelligent, and at least, convinced of friendship's power. It didn't make sense that she wouldn't pretend to show remorse, to try to get out of imprisonment. It didn't make sense why she was so absolutely delighted to be locked in a cage in the most secure dungeon in Equestria.

It didn't make sense even in the season premiere, where all her diabolical plans amounted to building a statue out of pebbles and not escaping in any way. She had no backup plan. She had no reinforcements. There was no way she was going to get out of Tartarus for basically forever. It doesn't make any sense at all that she'd be happy about this situation!

Unless you consider that maybe Cozy Glow didn't want to be free. The whole ruling Equestria thing was just a ruse, a front for her real agenda, which is showing what a good girl she is, by reforming Tirek.

What I'm saying is she's deluded into thinking she's some godlike super friend who can bend her enemies to her will, but that doesn't mean taking over the world. Ultimately the only explanation for her actions is that she was trying to do the right thing, and be a good friend. Not to everypony, but to someone who she thinks needs it.

>But it didn't make sense why she tried to destroy all the magic in Equestria, how that would possibly make her the Empress of Friendship.
Draining all magic had two outcomes, from what I could see. One is that it was part of her trap to get Twilight and the others away for good, which allowed her to take over the school. And secondly, by draining all magic, a lot of potential enemies to her power (like the other princesses) would have no magic power to combat her. It would just be a numbers game, and her whole thing as Empress of Friendship was gaining a lot of "friends" (AKA, followers). And that's even assuming it would have to go that way. She probably thought she could just slowly expand her friends while possibly weakening the standing of other ponies (she did like to try and set up divides like in Marks for Effort between Twilight and the CMC and in What Lies Beneath between the Young Six). I don't think she even knew Neighsay had escaped to tell Celestia before her planned ultimately failed, she just went straight from the "CMC are a diversion" to "better check on the magic draining spell where those other students probably are".

>It didn't make sense how she failed to learn all those friendship lessons, despite being intelligent, and at least, convinced of friendship's power.

She understands friendship as a concept, but fails to fully embrace it the right way the same way Grogar is aware that teamwork is necessary but by putting himself above others, he's made the other villains plot against him.

>It didn't make sense that she wouldn't pretend to show remorse, to try to get out of imprisonment.

The mane six already knew what a manipulative faker she was, and the creative team weren't going to drag out a scene with the same outcome. Plus as we see with Frenemies, her temper can get in the way of her manipulation, and her whole plan just got ruined. She was not in the right mind set to try and act her way out.

>It didn't make sense why she was so absolutely delighted to be locked in a cage in the most secure dungeon in Equestria.

You can see in the first frames when Luna and the guards bring her cage in that she actually does look sad.

>It didn't make sense even in the season premiere, where all her diabolical plans amounted to building a statue out of pebbles and not escaping in any way. She had no backup plan. She was faking it. The whole happy and nice thing was faking it. Tirek even called her out on it in Frenemies about how she's insincere. Cozy acts that way because that's the vision that she sees is her true self, whether that's reality or not. And because when you're in prison, joining a clique or becoming friends with someone is usually something to gain some sort of power while imprisoned, even if it wouldn't lead to getting free. Gaining Tirek as a friend could've been valuable in the future of her stay, even if she didn't know what could happen or when the opportunity to use him would arise. He was able to escape Tartarus before after all. And the rest of the inmates are animals so they probably wouldn't be too useful.

And she wouldn't be able to fly. Or have a cutie mark. Or special talent. Or will to live, apparently. Pic related. That happened to everypony in Equestria, including Cozy, and I don't think it was an experience she'd want to revisit. I really don't think Cozy Glow wanted to succeed here.

> her whole thing as Empress of Friendship was gaining a lot of "friends" (AKA, followers).

It sounds more like she was trying to think of some way to make friendship sound evil, so that she could convince ponies she was cuckoo whackadoodle ding dong. I can't say where her real intent lies, but... it makes more sense she secretly wanted to go to Tartarus, than she thought being Empress of Friendship would be any easier with Equestria devastated from loss of its magic.

> I don't think she even knew Neighsay had escaped to tell Celestia

She left him chained to a chair, in the open principal's office! With his medallion in a waste can, like right over there! He was halfway to getting it and saving himself, when the student 6 bailed him out. I mean it's possible she was that dumb, but...

> She understands friendship as a concept, but fails to fully embrace it the right way the same way

Doesn't mean she thinks destroying all magic is a good idea. Maybe she fails to fully embrace friendship by thinking that it's about showing off how good you are at being a friend, rather than actually uh... being a friend.

> The mane six already knew what a manipulative faker she was, and the creative team weren't going to drag out a scene with the same outcome.

See, given the choice between "DHX suck at cartoons" and "Cozy Glow wanted to go to Tartarus," I tend to lean on the latter, because I'd really rather give them the benefit of the doubt, even if they did produce A Canterlot Wedding. Either way seems valid speculation to me.

> She was faking it. The whole happy and nice thing was faking it.

C'mon, this is Cozy Glow. You don't think she can fake faking it?

> Tirek even called her out on it in Frenemies about how she's insincere.

Oh like she'd tell her crushTirek about her plans for snarking her way into his heart!

Consider this. Maybe Cozy Glow was faking taking over the world and the Mane 6 are in on it. That explains why they trapped themselves in Tartarus (and how Tartarus was so easy to escape), and it explains why they dumped a clearly mentally disturbed filly into a cage in a dungeon and forgot about her. Because Cozy Glow was faking it, and they knew it. It's all part of a long game to reform Tirek. Cozy's an inside agent, in the greatest friendship problem ever conceived.

Or, you know, maybe DHX just suck at cartoons.

There's been various ways "draining magic" has been portrayed. In Cozy's way, it didn't seem like it would affect pegasus flight or cutie marks. The effects were supposed to go, day one, unicorn magic is gone. Day two, magical abilities are gone. Day three, magical artifacts become powerless. If cutie marks and pegasus flight would've been affected, it would've been because of day two's affect, but there was still pegasi flying and no one missing their cutie mark on day three. So it seems it would be less soul devasting, and more just losing power kind of situation. Still very bad, but wouldn't affect her personally. Mainly just the unicorns and alicorns.

>It sounds more like she was trying to think of some way to make friendship sound evil, so that she could convince ponies she was cuckoo whackadoodle ding dong.

The only one she ever said "Empress of Friendship" to was Starlight (not counting the Young Six who were eavesdropping).

Okay, yeah, you're just trolling at this point. Honestly, if you just think the way she was handled sucked, you could just admit that this is how you'd prefer it to have been written rather than the whole act as if this was the writer's intentions all along with Cozy.

Also I'd counter that they were clearly talking as if this was a real threat in scenes where there was no one around to pretend to, like after they escaped Tartarus and think they still failed because they ran out of time.

Well, okay, I could understand if she managed it so it only happened to the unicorns/princesses, and stopped there. But it still wouldn't help make her Empress of Friendship. If she thinks friendship's so powerful, why isn't she befriending the creatures who are full of magic, so that they do her bidding? In fact that's exactly what she was doing, until she threw all that away for some hairbrained scheme that wouldn't even appreciably benefit her in any way. At least Tirek was stealing all the magic for himself. She was just flushing it down the toilet, for no reason!

> The only one she ever said "Empress of Friendship" to was Starlight (not counting the Young Six who were eavesdropping).

Yeah, but she made that cheap cardboard crown, and was clearly planning on being some sort of public empress announcement. Or she was bullshitting everything. If Cozy Glow was planning to get defeated in the first place, then confessing to Starlight would ensure they'd know how "evil" she was, since she couldn't possibly have expected Starlight to be saved by the tree of Harmony that was right f*cking there.

> Honestly, if you just think the way she was handled sucked, you could just admit that this is how you'd prefer it to have been written rather than the whole act as if this was the writer's intentions all along with Cozy.

Perhaps you should just admit that the writers are pretty clever, rather than just demanding that we all assume Cozy's over the top villainy could not possibly be an act, while her cutesy sycophantic pandering had to be one.

Or maaaybe instead, you could say that I might be right, I could say that you might be right, and then we can both wait patiently for the s26 finale, when Cozy Glow pulls a heel face turn, and reveals her Xanatos gambit. Or when the writers prove that they suck. Again.

Even if this were the case however, she'd still be second to Fluttershy in reforming villains.
