MLP has been weak since S1 Anonymous No.36827625
I haven't watched the show in a while (didn't make it past season 5), and I hear a lot of people complaining about the direction/writing of the new seasons compared to season 1.
But then I started thinking on it, and realized there is not a single memorable episode, or character, or quote in the entire show.
On a personal level, I started watching S1 because the ponies were cute, and I found out it was an OK cartoon and not just a soulless cash grab like the Barbie movies. That said, the show was still pretty weak.
I don't remember S1 making me laugh (beyond a chuckle), the characters were pretty uni-dimensional when they were first introduced and they remained weak to the end despite the little development they got. The whole Nightmare Moon thing made me cringe actually, episodes like the Buffalo or the Owl one are also pretty shit, and S1 has one of the most hated episodes in the entire series, to the point were Lauren Faust had to apologize.
The next seasons are the same too, they got funnier sometimes, but they never did anything that would endure beyond the show. When you get down to it, the show is pretty forgettable: you can't quote it like Spongebob, and speaking of that, it never reached Spongebob in writing quality (or other shows), not even when it was at its peak.
So in resume, I watched it for the cute pony butts and deceived myself into believing it was something more than a mediocre cartoon.
