How are you beating the heat? Mk17Country code: blank.gif, country type: ponyflag, valid: 42145729

Its faking hot out yo.
I dont have AC, but i have been swimming all night, but swimming only helps until you get out, or a snapping turtle bites off your toe.

What are you doing to keep cool?

ChewyCountry code: ponychan.png, country type: customflag, valid: 42145730

Uhh...I have AC. :/

I will say though, window ACs here don't hold a candle to the central cooling at Mac's place.

I actually just got back from Walmart of all places, doing some cheap clothes shopping because I unfortunately ruined some of my best stuff recently, and that store was...not comfortable to be in. And that's putting it very lightly. Christ I practically have a whole story about that but it would be veering way off topic.

Window AC still beats nothing haha.
I just cant bring myself to spend that much money on electricity.

Do tell your story, start with how you ruined your clothes in the first place haha.

I have a large window AC in the front of the house, a small AC in my bedroom and a dehumidifier at the back of the house. I also have a pool.

Of course none of that helps me much when I'm at work but there's nothing much to be done about that.

Tbh I have no idea how the clothes got ruined. A few days after I got home from Pittsburgh, I did a big load of laundry, like I always do, and I noticed a good few things still felt wet/moist. So I put them through the dryer again, but that didn't fix it. I was really confused, so then I washed them AND dried them again, and let them sit in my room for awhile, and they STILL feel "wet" even though I know they aren't. Its like some kind of moist but invisible substance is coating them or something.
The other clothes in the load were fine, and so were the next couple loads, so it seems like it was an anomaly. I don't think I did anything wrong.

Walmart story:

>getting there and finding clothes was pretty much fine

>then we get to the paying part
>barely half the registers are open
>so many people that most lines were going into the aisles
>no social distancing, basically
>store was hot and uncomfortable even with AC
>we choose what seems like the shortest line
>there is a couple ahead of the person right in front of us buying SO MUCH stuff that the person in front of us actually left
>it probably took like 15mins just for these people to have all their stuff rung up by the cashier
>finally we get to the register
>in the middle of the cashier ringing me up, some other employee literally just walks over to us and starts harrassing our cashier because he's wearing his nametag wrong or something
>they literally get in an argument where the cashier is yelling "GO AWAY AND DO YOUR OWN JOB" and the other guy finally leaves but not before pointing at the cashier and accusing him of being high
>finally me and Mom can finish our purchase and fucking leave

I have AC and we're all supposed to spend most of our time indoors anyway, so it's actually been super easy, barely an inconvenience.

I did go out earlier today though and I forgot that it was hot outside so I wore my comfy jumper that I'd been wearing inside, and ooh boy that was a mistake.

Not a whole lot, I run a space heater in the winter too so it's not like my power consumption spikes in the warm months. My house is a prefab, basically a double-wide trailer but with a better roof. I had packed said roof with additional fiberglass insulation when I first moved in, Then added mylar/foam mat insulation to the ceilings in most of the rooms. The place originally had white aluminum siding, I put light blue/gray vinyl siding overtop of that. The vinyl doesn't absorb as much solar heat as the aluminum does and while being doubled-up doesn't help all that much it doesn't hurt either. If I'd put a small air-gap between the two would have improved things quite markedly. The south side of the house, which is also the front of the house and gets the most direct sunlight has a whole shitload of overgrown shrubs planted around it to prevent passive solar heating. The front porch is enclosed, I have some of windows cracked open and a little window fan going so that fresh air circulates through and offers a little bit of convection cooling to the rest of the house. I also have four front doors, two screen doors and two wood-cored fire doors. Though I usually leave the outermost fire door slightly ajar for ventilation and to encourage delivery peoples to place packages inside rather than on the step. My bedroom is on the north side, center of the building so only one wall communicates with the outside and it only gets direct sunlight just before sunset and there's a couple pine trees there to help cut-down on that too. I replaced the hollow interior door with a solid pine door to better keep the AC or heat in too. It's also the closest bedroom to the kitchen so I don't have to go as far to raid the fridge.
Finally, since I basically live solely in my bedroom I can keep pretty much everything else powered-down and closed-off to keep things cool and keep power consumption down. In the winter I also block the heat vents to the rooms I'm not using.

TL/DR; I've made things about as efficient as I can without building a whole new house.

Also at work today I was registering and photographing some cars that were parked out in the sun. Just as I was getting around to the last one the app suddenly closed on the Samsung tablet I was using and box popped-up saying the tablet was overheating and wouldn't work until allowed to cool. I sat there and glared at the thing for a moment for quitting on me but then it dawned on me that that meant I could get out of this oven-like car and flee indoors to the AC too.

I basically live in my room too, which is why i keep teetering on #vanlife, because i have this whole fucking house, and only use about 30sqft of it haha.

There have been a bunch of mysterious car burnings in my area, like 40ish cars burned in the past day or so, and im willing to bet its was lithium batts that caused it.
Its nice, i get in my black car and its already up to temp, so the ac works right away haha.

I feel the weather has been more merciful the last few weeks so it's not as hot as it usually is during the Summer. Spring is more worse really. Probably climate change or global warming or something.

Other than a new indoor fan to keep me cool, I have large bedroom windows, could probably be used as doors. So when it's particularly hot I can open the wide and it feels like I have a bit of outdoors inside, though usually flies come in.
