They are definitely not what we would consider a cake here. So it's biscuits.

They're cakes, according to the UK VAT tribunal.

those are not cakes lol

Chain!Wall.j2i4YCountry code: blank.gif, country type: ponyflag, valid: 1 42134325

- The ingredients were regarded as similar to those of a cake, producing a thin cake-like batter rather than the thick dough of a biscuit.
- The product's texture was regarded as being that of a sponge cake.
- The product hardens when stale, in the manner of a cake.
- A substantial part of the product, in terms of bulk and texture, is sponge.
- In size, the product is more like a biscuit than a cake.
- The product was generally displayed for sale alongside other biscuits, rather than with cakes.
- The product is presented as a snack and eaten with the fingers, like a biscuit, rather than with a fork as a cake might be. The tribunal also considered that children would eat them in "a few mouthfuls", in the manner of a sweet.

I don't get this.

Lu has been making a line of biscuits since 1846. They're widely available around the world and popular in the US. Jaffa Cakes have pretty much gone under the food radar here and have only been around since the late 1920's. Debating the difference between the base sponge cake versus the firmer biscuits that others use for their cookies, which in the end is what these things are, is pretty much a waste of energy.

Chocolate fingers are actually disgusting. They shouldn’t be in the top 50, nevermind the top 2.

Also having two kinds of chocolate digestives is cheating. Give jafa cakes the second spot at least.

Nope, they're definitely slippers. I mean the manufacturer pays tax on them as slippers (lower tax than shoes), and their soles have fuzzy textile in just the right percentage to make them count as slippers!

None of this is related to biscuits or cakes, but things being categorized weirdly due to business reasons makes me laugh.

Since when does slippers have shoelaces? Pumps look more like slippers than they do.

Pumps were these black plain slip-on footwear we had in primary schools.

I'm not arguing the quality of the food. Just the choice of naming. Calling a food product "Digestives" seems like something you'd see in a comedy, in which things are named the most blatantly obvious things they are.

You digest food, so what would the most generic food product be called? "Digestives". It sounds like some artificial, highly generic 'imitation food product' that would come in plain white packaging with just the black text of 'Digestives' written on it. It'd be like something you'd find in a simulation run by aliens.

I'm still in shock this is an actual, real product.
