Mental Well Being Mk17Country code: blank.gif, country type: ponyflag, valid: 42125902

Mental health I think is like physical health, it takes work.
We consume mental stimulation like food and we exercise our mental capacity like a muscle, so it stands to reason that developing healthy mental habits and making good choices would net a benifit.

So, what are some things you do, or could do, to take care of your mental health and fitness?
My hope is that this not be a thread about problems, but rather, solutions. So please, if you want to post a problem you're facing, please think of a possible solution to go along with it.
It might be easier than you think!

Recently I did something that i think helped me reduce a lot of stress and anxiety, I "downgraded" my phone. I bought a nokia 3310 for 40 bucks, and its been great.
I find its easy to get addicted to my smart phone, and it became a sourse of anxiety with constant notifications and alerts and emails and messages... it wasn't good for my mental health at all.
Now, my phone is quiet, and going on the internet has become a deliberate choice, rather than a constant state.
Basically, I began seeing my smart phone as being more like a laptop than a phone, and I've felt a lot better the past few days.

That isn't to say doing that is right for everybody, (or anybody, im weird haha) but, it goes to show what can happen with a simple change, if you think about it.

My favorite game is don't starve. I play as willow. It helps to unwind and relax while sipping some soda when you're trying to beat the game. I guess the game is made to bring out my creativity, which is why it makes me feel good. The game is about survival and there are so many ways to go about beating that game. Adventure mode is really hard to beat. I already finished adventure mode and unlocked Maxwell. Exploring the caves with the puppet master is much easier to do because of his dapper perk, which mitigates the sanity drain of exploring the caves. When I beat a game(especially a hard one), I feel accomplished and that makes me feel good. I also play minecraft, but that game is wayyy too easy. I like a good challenge.

Recently I’ve consistently been going to bed at ~1AM and getting up at exactly 9AM. I used to go to bed at like 3-4AM and get up whenever. So far it’s helped and I feel a lot better.

I’ve also been trying to learn some self discipline, which has been 50/50 for me. I’m spending virtually no time on the Xbox, but I keep checking my phone for stuff. Usually I’d spend a good few hours each day walking and reading, but without that I’ve found myself becoming increasingly irritated and ADHD brained because of all the distractions around me.

I read like 60 pages and did some Chinese yesterday, which is good, but I still wasted several hours doing basically nothing on my phone. Getting out would really help.

>>42125904
Weird. I’ve been thinking of buying like a mini laptop to do just that. You can’t use a laptop as easily as you would a phone when you’re out, so you’d only use it when you need it.

Probably something I’ll never do, just a idea I randomly had like two days ago.

>>42125909
This is honestly the opposite for me. Playing games has kind of made me feel like shit recently, because I fell like I’m just waisting time and not doing anything.

>>42125910
Whenever I do play something it’s usually The Long Dark or GTA, but I can’t get into the mood anymore.

Same with Minecraft. Used to love it and I’d spend endless hours playing it doing all sorts of cool and creative stuff. Now I play it for 10 minutes and am just like “what the fuck am I supposed to be doing”.

I feel like I'm massively addicted to my smartphone but I'm not ready to stop. The calendar is essential for keepinf track of things I need to do, the notepad is good for quickly typing/saving various information or ideas, I can check my email and the weather quickly, I can be up to date on the various online communities I'm in, I can listen to music with spotify, watch youtube, etc., and these all run smoother than my laptop. I did manage to quit twitter and instagram because those felt like massive wastes of time. But every time I'm sitting down not doing anything, I pull out my phone.

>>42125910
I have been playing a lot of CoD, going for gold camo on my favorite guns. Gold camo feels like an actual accomplishment to unlock because you have to complete several tedious/difficult challenges that require a lot of patience and sometimes a bit of luck.
I bought the new Animal Crossing but admittedly haven't been playing it much.

Some things that help my mental health are taking short walks outside, spending time with my mom and brother when they are available, immersing myself in good music, and trying to get myself to read.

Lately ive been looking at life like irl minecraft. I spent yesterday cutting up wood and setting it out to dry before i store it for next winter.
I want to start putting easter eggs in my local park, solar torches are only a dollar, and i like putting torches and hidden things in the woods in minecraft for people to find, so i think id like it irl too.

A good and consistent sleep schedule is probably the number 1 most important thing in keeping ones mind together.
I also want a laptop for that same reason, one that can use a sim to connect to cellular networks would be preferable.
Thats how im using my smart phone atm, i only put the sim card in when i want to sit down and use it, otherwise its in my Nokia and the smartphone sits at home.

All of which can be done on a feature phone tbh, though, in limited capacity.
Spotify, no but youtube yes.
Gmail doesn't work on it though, i think because they want to force you into their "ecosystem".
I can still check here too, but responding is a bitch, and honestly, im okay with that.

>I've put on like 10KG of weight in 3 weeks.
How? I eat like shit to try and gain weight, and it just doesn’t happen.

Yesterday I had a big bowl of cereal, 4 jam sandwich's for lunch, curry with rice and mushrooms for dinner, and a big bowl of noodles for my bedtime snack. I eat way more than my mum and sister and yet they’re both fat, hell my mum skips whole meals half the time and basically eats no junk food.

Yesterday I was 113lbs, and I’ve been fluctuating between 105 and 115 for about a year and a half since I first started checking. My mum probably weighs about 220lbs, despite the fact that she eats probably about a quarter of the food that I do, if not less.

Whenever I eat a lot I put on a kind of skinny-fat weight, but then I wake up and I’m just skinny. I think it’s because I have very feminine and skinny arms, legs, hands, etc, which detract massively from my weight, but surely my stomach should be putting on some weight at least.

I’m on like the edge of being unhealthy skinny, even though I eat significantly more than most people. Is this just some kind of weird genetic thing, and I’ll always be this way? Keeping in mind that I’ve always had a big appetite, and I was always the skinniest kid in my class.

Feeling is directly correlated with intuitive thinking. Intuitive reasoning is based on what one feels to be true without any direct evidence. Therefore, relying on what you feel to be true can be unreliable.

These descriptions and 'feeling' and 'intuition' are off-base, and depend entirely on the order of the system into which they are fit. In any case, 'intuition' should not be confused with "blind faith".

Knight!Rider.HegUCountry code: blank.gif, country type: ponyflag, valid: 1 42127243

>>42127242
Intuition should be correlated with immediate feeling. "Stomach feeling". Which often is your subconscious telling you "this is right".
Which it often is. Your conscious thoughts and reasoning often are wrong compared to it, it's literally your brain trying to tell you "dude, this is fine, OK?"
"Blind faith" however is an un- reasoned ideology. Not intuition or "stomach feeling". It's literally you trying to UN-reason something. Overriding what you should know is better.

"Gut feeling" is a kind of movement. What I am thinking of is 'intuition' in an "emanating" sense, the same way we think of 'thinking' and 'feeling' as something which is always flowing, perhaps with varying degrees of intensity.

For me intuition is "the unitive aspect of perception"; or, put slightly differently, "thought with totality as its content" (as compared to discrete forms of thought--objects and signs and so forth). If we look carefully thought concerned with totally provides a bed for our tangible experience, which might otherwise be incomprehensible.

Normally when we talk about 'thinking' and 'feeling' we speak of them as if they are going on all the time, like a fountain. We are always 'thinking' or 'feeling' something, even if we are unaware of it.

I am defining 'intuition' in a similar way--we are always 'intuiting' something. It is part of a psychological or computational process.

It is necessary for us to talk about distinct objects. "This book" or "that cat" or "the setting sun". There is a complementary side to this which is concerned with "totality", not just the one book or cat or sunset but every book or cat or sunset belonging to a general order of ideas. We cannot 'know' this general order directly but nonetheless it is a necessary category of our thought. We call it 'intuition'.

To address OP's question, one thing I have found myself doing lately is making time at night for reflection; this is where the events of the day are digested. It might, for example, take the form of a short report of a moment that occurred during the day. I revisit this moment and gather the sensory details of my body and what is going on around me without commentary or judgment. This is difficult, and contrary to my habit of drowning in associative thoughts. A small piece of my day becomes substantial.

Thats cool. I've often considered keeping a journal, which is a lot like that.
Its probably good to take a moment out of your day to stop and think, sometimes i find myself going days seemingly on auto pilot. Hitting the breaks at the end of the day seems like good advice.

It's a practice of living your everyday life, rather than "waiting for life to happen". It's what artists and journalists are able to do without articulating it as such, I think. But it does require discipline, and you don't always get what you expect.

Just watched 3 films with my family after going for a long walk.

First was Dumb and Dumber, the second was Kiki’s Flying Delivery Service, and the third (which I watched by myself because everyone else was/is sleeping) was Castle In The Sky.

Pretty wholesome day. Don’t know if it ties into this thread directly, but I suppose spending time with family is good for mental health.

This! I’ve watched it about 5 times now.

That’s tied with Spirited Away and Whisper of The Heart as my favourite Ghibli film.

Aria is pretty great wholesomeness series as well.
Just about a girl that wants to do her best as a gondolier.
Wonderful art and happy happy stories.

I have a second-generation Indian friend (I'm in the U.S.) who said that a Ghibli film (Spirited Away, I think) was the first animated anything his parents saw and took seriously as media for adults.

Anime films really seem to have mastered the art of family entertainment, as apposed to a clearly childish Western film with the word “family” written over it.

Yuru Camp is also pure wholesomeness.
Just about girls going camping and enjoying themselves.
Highly rated like Aria.
I'll stop posting wholesome anime now, or we'll be here all day.

My mother is a complete anime nutcase nowadays after I introduced her to it. I started her out with Grave of the Fireflies and it's still her favorite anime.

"Children's literature" is the term I would use. "Family entertainment", as you allude, sounds like something designed by committee. And yes, it is a real art form. It's weird being a kid--sometimes a little dark!

>>42127751
As a bit of a tangent, it's funny when someone from an older generation discovers something that's usually associated with "internet culture" and thinks it's the greatest thing. My mother started using a social media platform recently and she said to me, like she'd found gold, "The trick is that when you share something other people share it too. You see? One-hundred people have already seen [item] that I posted."

Can't you do that online?
At least here in Norway, all communication can be done online, appointments, new prescription, even live chat with your main doctor.

Cleaning and organizing has put me in a much better mindset lately.
Its like, when you look atound and see a mess, you know there is work to be done, so its always in the back of your mind whether you realize it or not maybe.
Ether way, it has helped.

I always end up cleaning up after my brother, although mainly because I don't want our mom to be irritable about messes when she gets home. However there is a certain satisfaction to it.

My room is legit in desperate need of cleaning ngl. I need to buy a boxspring because my bedframe is literally falling apart, too. 😬

Yes, i finished cleaning my room today, well, a majority, and i moved my bed to a new spot.
For some reason moving furniture always makes everything seem a lot fresher, it was a nice double whammy.
I also split the time between playing doom levels and doing work which made things go by easy.
I bought Maxwell house and switched to a percolator. Just a cool change up.
A bed frame and a box spring are different things.

My mattress is still perfectly fine.

Checked.

>>42128895
A box spring goes inside a bed frame. You can have a box spring on the floor without a bed frame, but you cant have a bed frame without a box spring. If you put a mattress on a bed frame without a box spring, it will sag and fall through, unless its specifically made for that, which is rear.

Feel a lot better today after a good sleep. I’m a light sleeper so I usually get up several times during the night, but tonight I slept for 6 hours straight, no interruptions.

I’m going to go out and walk the dog later on today for a few hours. Pic related is from a previous walk.

When im ruminating on lost loves like the OP, i garden.

Because people fit under the vegetables in the garden, and all the nice tools are so long and poky and stuff.

Let them enrich my brocoli and tomatoes. Their finest hour. Want to come to my garden, OP?
