Skyrim as a Vampire Lord.

Even human form is extremely OP because you get a spell that lets you drain your enemies of their blood, giving you more health. Upgrade your Vampire powers and you can make the spell drain stamina and stagger them, meaning that even the toughest enemies are no match for you, because assuming that they somehow manage to hit you, you can just drain their blood, and they’ll be able to do nothing about it because they’ll be extremely slow and constantly staggering. Equipped light Vampire armour (125% magika regeneration) and get your magika above 400 and you basically become an unstoppable killing machine, and that’s without even activating your Vampire Lord powers.

You can just walk into Solitude and kill every Imperial in sight without a second thought.

Morrowind is objectively the best.

seriously fuck Morrowind. One of the most overrated games ever.

Skyrim and Oblivion are dumbed down for casuals and the cawadoody crowd.

you have to be utterly blinded by nostalgia to think Morrowind is better. It has aged HORRIBLY in several ways. You could argue Oblivion aged pretty badly too, but at least it has better music, graphics, mechanics, etc.

I mean if you subjectively enjoy Morrowind more on a personal level, fine, but Oblivion/Skyrim had objective improvements to almost...everything.

Literally only the combat system and graphics are "improved."

Everything else is too different to consider an "improvement" while there are numerous points of degradation.

>you have to be utterly blinded by nostalgia to think Morrowind is better

Or, you know, have good taste.

> but at least it has better music, graphics, mechanics,

Music is laughable. Morrowind has an infinitely superior soundtrack.

>graphics

Meaningless when it comes to quality of the actual game, and mods bring Morrowind squarely up to Oblivion if not surpassing it.

>mechanics

Like what? Combat? The combat in Morrowind is perfectly adequate, if weird. It's trivial compared to everywhere the game excels.

>Oblivion/Skyrim had objective improvements to almost...everything

And major reductions in the quality of storytelling, memorability, or being quality RPGs in general.

If you just want an easymode action RPG that's fine, but don't sit here and try to tell me that trivial things like graphics and combat mechanics make Oblivion or Skyrim better RPGs than Morrowind.

>>inb4 that 4chan post thing going on about three less armor types in Skyrim or something

And fewer weapons, and fewer spells, and less depth in general. Hence why it is "dumbed down."

The accessibility is the ONLY legitimate thing Skyrim and Oblivion might have on Morrowind, getting people to initially get interested. But Morrowind is the better RPG in every way that matters.

see this is the thing

you're approaching Morrowind like it's a book, not a video game.
But it's a video game, of course graphics/combat are very important. Or not even graphics so much as aesthetics. Like if Morrowind had a retro art style that was actually good, it would be...good, but instead it just looks atrocious.

The combat is ridiculous.
>like 50% of attacks miss even if you're literally touching something with your weapon

I mean, no, but an RPG should be extremely story driven.

>But it's a video game, of course graphics/combat are very important.

Yes, and both are perfectly adequate in Morrowind.

>Like if Morrowind had a retro art style that was actually good, it would be...good, but instead it just looks atrocious.

In what fucking way? Morrowind is WIDELY regarded as having a nearly unmatched aesthetic in the genre.

If absolutely necessary, again, mods make it even more so.

>like 50% of attacks miss even if you're literally touching something with your weapon

It's a dice-roll. Get your skill up. Don't like it? Accurate Attack removes the dice-roll aspect.

>literally why let people choose their shit if its mandatory to choose specific things to have a functional combat system

You don't HAVE to do SHIT. You're free to do absolutely whatever. Which is GOOD. This is not an argument unless you're suggesting people are too stupid to figure it out.

>this would literally be like if you were picking your starter in Pokemon, but the professor said "just be careful, your attacks will only land consistently if you pick the water starter and make it hold an etc. etc."

terrible character models, textures, effects, etc.
>If absolutely necessary, again, mods make it even more so.
okay but that is fanmade stuff, not the official game that Bethesda made. If we go that route, you could argue that mods fix all the things you don't like about Skyrim, too.
>It's a dice-roll. Get your skill up. Don't like it? Accurate Attack removes the dice-roll aspect.
>dice roll
I really don't see what the point of a dice roll for melee combat is. It doesn't make sense either as a feature or from a logical standpoint. It's something that would make more sense in like, a DnD session, maybe.
>It's nowhere near this, don't be so dramatic.

You have to understand the era Morrowind was made in, and why they made many of the choices they did.

Nah, it's "subjective."

>terrible character models, textures, effects, etc.

Not for the time, no, and it has been updated.

>okay but that is fanmade stuff, not the official game that Bethesda made.

Irrelevant unless you're willing to sit here and say it is fair to compare things like graphics with games that came out almost a decade apart. Of course the newer one will look better, no shit.

>If we go that route, you could argue that mods fix all the things you don't like about Skyrim, too.

No mod fixes forgettable characters, boring stories, and general lack of a soul.

>I really don't see what the point of a dice roll for melee combat is. It doesn't make sense either as a feature or from a logical standpoint. It's something that would make more sense in like, a DnD session, maybe.

That is literally why it was done. When Morrowind was designed it was designed around the idea of what an RPG traditionally is a-la DnD. Even before I knew about or used mods I never once struggled with the combat system. If 10 year old me could figure it out, anyone should be able to.

AnonymousCountry code: blank.gif, country type: ponyflag, valid: 1 42120871

As someone who played TES III: Morrowind at launch along with its expansions, Morrowind's lore and world were easily the best in the series. Its combat was below average for the time and age has made it even worse, especially with so many hidden dice rolls in a game that's fully real time. It just made you hardcore minmax to even be able to clear the higher content or run past enemies to objectives if your stealth was too low. The lack of fast travel and instead using spells or Silt Striders was never an impairment really. It had more variety than Oblivion but less than Skyrim since Skyrim you just choose what you prefer the style of and all of it is viable with investment. Morrowind just made you go for whatever was viable but sheer numbers since that's all combat boiled down to: stamina for better chances on your rolls and best weapons for accuracy to even hit.

Morrowind: 9/10 for total experience.
Oblivion: 7/10 for quality of life improvements but a far more generic experience.
Skyrim: 8/10 for being the first where you can truly play how you want without having to gimp yourself intentionally outside OTB of the past games

Daggerfall is too tedious to even play, even in the early 00s with DOSBOX.

It's not that dice rolls are inherently bad, but how opaque they are in Morrowind that never really made you know anything other than "I stabbed him with a spear and it missed". If it showed you percentages in your stat breakdown or items when equipped to give you an estimate, it would at least let you see how the roll is, not just some arbitrary feeling of it being fair/unfair. The mods that remove the rolls break things in other ways: everything becomes paper armor because it's assumed you have some innate defense from rolls failings, etc. So it ends up with you just dumping 100% resist to...everything. Or reflect.

AnonymousCountry code: blank.gif, country type: ponyflag, valid: 1 42120874

>>42120873
I think the big issue was that the way the dice rolls were balanced made it totally unsatisfying. Tweaking things so you wouldn't miss 90% of your swings at early levels would make it a lot less frustrating, or so you didn't have to run back to town to have a nap because stabbing one rat took all of your stamina.

Only gave it a 5 for gameplay due to how broken the gameplay is.

I mean, by the time you get to level 10, have a few decent stats and weapons you can one to two hit kill most enemies in the game..

And that's without going into alchemy exploits. Why yes, I do want to start fortifying my intelligence by a thousand so i can make potions of literal unlimited stamina and magika that will last for fifty real world hours, or prehaps boost all my other stats by five hundred for thirty hours..

Never mind how levitation completely breaks the game, just fly above someone and ta da you can now never be hit.

Don't get me wrong though, I still love Morrowind-

It is however a broken mess.. But yes, a very fun broken mess at that.
