I got into pony in early 2012 when I was only 11. I was just starting high-school, was extremely weird, and had no friends, something that if anything has only gotten worse IRL.
Pony gave a fantasy world to slip into when my IRL life was so mundane and lonely. I remember spending countless hours in and out of school reading fanfiction. The two longest fanfictions that I read were probably Griffin The Griffin, who’s full series accounts for over 700,000 words, and A Wolf Among Ponies, which makes up 747,000 words, although to be honest I only read through about 400,000 words of A Wolf Among Ponies, but Griffin The Griffin to this day stands as the longest series I’ve read to completion, as well as one of my favourites, and I read it when I was only 14-15 years old.
When I think back to this period of my life largely all I can think about is endless hours either reading fanfiction or day dreaming about it. I’d read certain fics and day dream about them literally years after the fact, sometimes I even do so today. Every new fanfiction I read was an entirely new world I could explore in my mind, and I treasured all of them as such. And of course I’d imagine myself in place of some characters, or just eject myself into the story, or have imaginary interactions with characters, etc, which is a large part of why I became so obsessed with Lyra. By far she’s the character I’d interact with and think about the most, and because of this today I’ve read virtually everything written about her. She was a companion who I could talk about anything when I had none IRL.
Other than fanfiction I watched a few channels and the show, but I was mostly interested in fanfiction. And that was basically my relationship to the fandom until I discovered this site. Upon finding this site I began to form genuine relationships with people the first time since I was extremely young. I went from having no one to suddenly having a large community of people, and luckily I’ve been able to quite a few positive relationships out of it.>>42114846
