I just wish there had been more action earlier on and less forced emotional stuff, because it was a completely cookie cutter script. Rambo's daughter gets kidnapped, Rambo kills everyone responsible, basically. I love these kinds of movies but there wasn't much depth to this one. I mean Stallone is still a pretty great actor, at least. Having him in the lead certainly makes it more enjoyable, as opposed to some nobody or worse actor.
I liked the last Rambo movie a lot more, the one that was just called Rambo. It had a lot more action, a cooler setting, and a more epic finale. And of course the original movie First Blood is great, although in a different way.
Critics trashed this new one, said it was "too violent" and that it's portrayal of Mexicans is "racist", even though they're portraying a Mexican gang just as generic bad guys which has been done a million times in cinema.
It is pretty violent, but mostly only in the last few scenes, and it's so ridiculous that I can't imagine anyone being "shocked" by it, honestly. I was chuckling at it, myself. Like seriously, there's a scene where Rambo sets up a bed of spikes in a pit and lures baddies into falling on it, and then for some reason he unloads a machine gun into their bodies after they're obviously already dead lmao. And then there's the part where Rambo kills the last guy by nailing him to a wall with his crossbow and then literally fucking cutting out his heart.
Like I said it was a decent movie, a 6/10 and not a lot more.
