Focus on important things acheived through suppressing less relevant sensor information:

Considering a number of my autism symptoms such as inability to separate sounds from background noise etc seem to have an issue of muddled priorities on brain focus, I wonder how much of autism has to do specifically with this suppression mechanism etc.

“I consider that a man's brain originally is like a little empty attic, and you have to stock it with such furniture as you choose. A fool takes in all the lumber of every sort that he comes across, so that the knowledge which might be useful to him gets crowded out, or at best is jumbled up with a lot of other things, so that he has a difficulty in laying his hands upon it. Now the skillful workman is very careful indeed as to what he takes into his brain-attic. He will have nothing but the tools which may help him in doing his work, but of these he has a large assortment, and all in the most perfect order. It is a mistake to think that that little room has elastic walls and can distend to any extent. Depend upon it there comes a time when for every addition of knowledge you forget something that you knew before. It is of the highest importance, therefore, not to have useless facts elbowing out the useful ones.”

God knows, I can never remember names and faces unless I really try. Also, contrary to stereotypical autism, I don't feel any particular discomfort in looking people in the face. I just usually forget to.

Also, Fuck 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.' Smug, condescending Autism Speaks-tier garbage.

>"dog in the night" thing
the wut now?

I dont share that particular trait either.

Im real bad at noticing what color someone's hat is etc. I dont fucking care so i dont know. I thought it was about recalling memory but no memory was made. I dunno if thats related to autism, the background suppressor deal malfunctioning or me just being lame.

Well the one paragraph summary doesn't quite sound right, no.

I more ascribe to Rainman for my set of symptoms. I'm not as severe as he is (nor a savant) but I really relate to lots of the same things he gets hung up by in much the same ways.
