It took me 18 years to realize it, but I finally understand what my 8th-grade Math teacher was saying when he cheekily said, "99% of the stuff on the internet is garbage."

...and that includes this site.

pic related:[image of garbage omitted because the internet is garbage and contradicts itself]

have a list of things that make the internet garbage:

every new browser interface redesign since 2003
every new interface redesign since 2001
auto-form-fill (never works, constantly have to click multiple times or back and forth just to type anything)
google maps - unintuitive, limited interface
NSA
hackers
piracy
porn
4chan
facebook
YouTube comment sections
deprecation of star-rating systems in general
people
social media
broadband

prove me wrong

most of the things you bitched about are mild annoyances at worst, and in the cases of broadband and porn objectively good

Newsflash: societal sickness in the real world makes all our thoughts shitty, and the internet just happens to be the biggest outlet we have for our shit. The baggage would still be in our heads to begin with even if the place we discharged it suddenly went away; in fact it'd make it harder for people to cope if it did, and stuff like suicides and murder-suicides would skyrocket. The normie cretins who kvetch about the "sketchy" environment the internet creates are the same nibbas who help perpetuate the toxic corporate culture and hypocritical soccer-mom values that leads to these social diseases in the first place, and we have nowhere to go but here to vent the sickness they feed. It's because they're the people who act like it's fair and just that we're not even allowed the right to scream when we're wounded and bleeding.

>every new browser interface redesign since 2003
>every new interface redesign since 2001
Seriously debatable
>auto-form-fill (never works, constantly have to click multiple times or back and forth just to type anything)
Works on my machine (for the most part)
>google maps - unintuitive, limited interface
On the phone maybe, but the desktop interface is decent
>hackers
Hollywood and mainstream media have incorrectly convinced everyone that all hackers are inherently evil, when it's just the black hat hackers.
>porn
Porn has existed long before computers
>deprecation of star-rating systems in general
debatable
>people
That isn't even internet
>social media
People make (some parts of) social media shitty, it isn't inherently shitty by itself.
>broadband
whut. Broadband is a good thing. I suppose you think we should all go back to dialup?

Your post is 99% garbage.

please bring back dial-up. that was the golden age. everything was so much smoother and more intuitive because our attention-spans weren't being raped by broadband.

Performance wasn't necessarily smoother in the 90's, things may have been only marginally more intuitive by it's simplicity and our youth, while the biggest change has been in the volume of information; the medium isn't what destroys attention spans, but the message, namely that of a million people trying to all sell us a million things, figuratively or literally, all at the same time.
So as responsible users, it is up to us to hone our abilities to filter through the haze and prioritize well, which we can do and teach others to do, until neoliberal capitalism falls.
