Are you a coffee drinker? Or are you some kind of Rastafarian or "straight edge" type person who abstains?
What kind of coffee do you like? How often do you consume? How do you take it?

not a fan of coffee

i can actually tolerate it if its drenched in sugar and coffee cream

but that defeats the purpose of coffee i guess

Huh, i always pegged you for a coffee drinker tbh.
Any particular reason, or just dont like the taste?

>>472213
I mean, it dosnt defeat the purpose, depending on what your intent is. If your drinking it for health benefits, yeah, loading it up with cream and sugar isnt going to be beneficial haha.
I use to drink it extra extra, but now i drink it straight black, and have for a few years now.
Its like anything else that you "acquire" a taste for.
I still like dressed coffee, its like icecream to me now, something i have once in a great while knowing that its bad for me.

Usually just drink my coffee black. Sometimes add cream depending, but typically no sweetener. The bitterness is usually fine. Sometimes try for different flavors, a market here has some nice ones like an almond flavor.

If I'm feeling fancy at a coffee shop or whatever, I'll go for a mocha latte, or something. Chocolatey goodness.

Think caffeine is messin me up though, need to do decaf more.

Black is the way to go haha. Thats how i roll too, but yeah, sometimes i like to dress it up. I think we are on the same page there.
I use to into coffee shops more often, mostly for the atmosphere, but the prices are insane.
We have a good selection around here, though its hare to find whole-bean at the bigger markets, i need to go to the smaller hipster markets for that haha. I think getting whole-bean is cheaper in the long run tbh, because you get a lot out of a grind, and, with the added bonus of pure freshness.

I've been thinking about getting a manual espresso press, they can be fairly cheap compared to the steam driven ones, still a bit pricey though, and really, its just a smaller cup of coffee haha. But, lattes are good and i want to be able to make one on demand.

I've done a lot of reading on caffeine, as i do with all my drugs, and the general consensus seems to be that when taken natrually in black coffee or tea, its pretty low risk - high reward for you. Even the AHA recommends it. But yeah, everyone reacts different and its good to take a break from everything once in a while. I tend to switch to tea for a bit when im feeling like im hoping the caffeine train a bit too much. Mostly because when i quit cold turkey, i get wicked headaches haha.

>>472223
>actually that reminds me mcdonalds coffee is actually decent

This is a very true statement. When i get mcdonalds coffee, i can get it black and enjoy it, but BK i have to get with cream and sugar to mask the rancid taste haha.

No onions and no coffee, idk man, you're missing out hard haha.

It is an acquired taste though, like scotch or whiskey. To each their own though.

Thats the problem haha, BK has the better breakfast food and McDs has the better coffee.
Wendys breakfast is actually pretty amazing, and it would be my favorite IF they would serve some kind of tot/hashbrown situation instead of those "wedges" .

BK breakfast is what i had immediately proceeding my little cardiac situation the other day haha, so, im kind of turned off to FF breakfast all together. SO much salt, and for the same 8 bucks or whatever, i could make super awesome breakfasts at home for a week.
I made a damn sexy omelette this morning.

I just don't want to bother with grinding my own really heh. The market I sometimes go to sells them in whole bean but they have their own grinding machines you can do yourself. Maybe not perfectly fresh, but sti good enough imo

I don't know if I've ever had pure espresso drinks, just the other loads of drinks that use espreso lol. Seems like something I'd get for the convenience of using at home, but then not ever use because it's still too much work and go to the cafe anyway hahaha.

I think some amounts of coffee is great, but not drinking like three-four cups some mornings just making me too jittery and anxious. More just want decaf to enjoy the flavor and aroma and all that.

Ah, that is a good option if they have a grinder right there. Tbh, i always have a can of like, maxwell house or some instant coffee around for when im feeling lazy haha, so no judging or snobbery is implied.
I got a little hand grinder though, and it only takes a few seconds, so its just become part of my morning routine.

I like the cremer that pressing espresso produces, it gives a cool flavor and texture without needing to add anything. But in the end, espresso itself is just like, a small concentrated cup of coffee that you enjoy for a shorter amount of time haha. But, i want to make cappuccino.
>Seems like something I'd get for the convenience of using at home, but then not ever use because it's still too much work and go to the cafe anyway hahaha.
Yeeeeeeeeah, thats why i haven't actually spent the money yet tbh. In the winter i get into kitchen equipment a lot though and just want to scratch the "i need a new thing or my life is meaningless" itch. Im such a good consumer haha.

I use to way over do it with coffee tbh. Talking like, 8 - 10 cups a day. It can fuck with you for sure, so i know what you mean. I try to keep it to just 1 or 2 now, best i can.

I was in the same camp with you on this topic. Bulk coffee makers are shit. If you ground your beans freshly as you make your cup, it's a whole different world!

When I switched to the Aero Press and a small burr grinder for processing my beans for every cup, my life changed. I only need one cup per day and don't have that shit taste of rancid drip coffee on my tongue.

The upside to this system is you can use the cheapest bulk beans rather than over spend on beans you're just going to ruin in any other coffee maker.

>If you have a bad machine it can suck, but if you have one with a good basket and spreader, it can be downright great.

That is, if you are diligent in keeping it as clean as humanly possible. That's one of the biggest reasons Kurig machines are shit. No one cleans the damn things. One time I went to take care of a friend's pets while they were gone and their $200 machine was caked with residue in the cup holder and there was mold growing in the water tank. Ew!

If you do a clean pour over in a clean filter holder, you're doing all right. Just make sure the hole in the bottom of the filter holder gets a lot of loving care so the oils don't concentrate there. I still have mine but it's just collecting dust now that I'm a Aero Press addict.

yeah at psychoactive but nah at dangerous, straight caffeine is better for you than coffee, and theanine is just green tea extract

theanine is why you can drink green tea and go to bed after

the effects aren't additive to the caffeine - instead it takes the jitteriness off of caffeine , makes the caffeine effect last longer, and the crash much easier

improves caffeine all around and theanine+caffeine is a real winner, plus the liver and kidneys dont have to process all the extras that come with coffee beans

I find you also consume less caffeine when you take it straight. 25mg caffeine straight feels like an energy drink to me. 50mg would get me through a day

but 3 or 4 cups of coffee is easily 300 - 500% that amount

if anyone wants to give it a try: publix has the perfect caffeine tabs, two sheets of 200mg x8 - and the store brand tabs are soft so you can easily bite or break off 20 , 30mg at a time

A lot of things get a bad rep simply because of user ignorance and misuse. But i agree, a pour over is def the cleanest way, because you just use a new filter every time.
French presses are honestly a bitch to clean though haha. I like the aero, though i havent bought one.

I find it funny to imagine avid stoners shying away from coffee.

I mostly drink my cold brew 1x-2x a day, when I have breakfast with my parents we make machine filtered coffee with milk.

I like coffee okay, I like it to feel more awake/giddy and get my intestines going, but I cringe when people make too heavy rituals of it or degenerate into it seemingly being the only thing keeping them from eternal sleep.

I drink at least two cups of coffee every day

Always iced

Vanilla flavoring and sometimes sugar, never cream tho

Coffee gets me through the morning. I usually just use a bit of cream, a single scoop of sugar if I'm needing a little extra.

Breville or Cuisanart have good "grind and brew" coffee makers.

I can't do most instant coffees. I'm sure some are good, but I've had enough blech ones I'd usually skip it...

Ooh, a hand grinder would probably be a good purchase, though. Maybe a good gift idea for the future

I've tried americanos which is like espresso with enough hot water added to make it like coffee, so it's kinda pointless like that lol. Remind me to try pure espresso soon.

I have a hard time convincing myself to buy anything unless I'm 100% sure I'll use it long time. And I'm really good at telling myself no! Needed to rely on my mother buying me a food processor.

>>472601
I saw some of those while I was buying the coffee maker I have now, but opted to not going for it. Still like the Cuisinart I have now tho!

Good instant coffee really makes a huge difference. Its still not like, "this is the best cuppa coffee ever!" but, its good, and its def a lot easier when camping. Also makes good iced coffee quickly.

Hand grinders are fairly cheap for a decent one. Mine cant grind fine enough for espresso, but its great for everything else.

Americanos always seemed kind of pointless to me tbh, like, ether give me an espresso or dont, or give me a full body coffee or dont. That being said, they can be alright haha.
I wish i had your powers. When i get depressed, i get spendy. IM WORKING ON IT! haha.

I do iced normally from like fast food places and stuff, because they serve it so fucking hot when you get hot. Its a necessity in the summer time though, then i brew it iced.

Idk, you make it sound like you just grab whatever cup of hot brown is at hand.
If you like, went and selected your beans, ground it fresh, or tried a new brewing method or something, do you think it might make that part of the day a little nicer?

Southern thing. Coffee was used only for the troops during the Civil War and then once they ran out, they used the same as the civilians previously rationed: chicory. A root made into a bitter drink. You can get pure chicory but usually I get a blend. If you ever went to New Orleans, almost all the coffee served has some level of chicory in it. Well, before shit like Starbucks even overrided stuff like that.

Neighbor that babysat me was a coonass growing up and would make it for me when I was a kid.

I like espresso but I only have it once or twice a week because I get pumped full of filter coffee at work.
Also there's a great coffee place I found out about a few months ago, their coffee is expensive af but honestly soooo good. It makes me understand the mentality of people that debate coffee grind levels and how I dunno, ethiopia's acidic soil makes for a smoother drink or whatever the fuck.

Is that Trixie in OP a coffee machine? I think she's a goddamn coffee machine.

Usually the coffee I've had was free, or from the gas station. Never really was too crazy about it.
I lived with someone who had one of those K-cup coffee machines, but they are more for convenience than taste. Not a fan.

Lately I've had this idea to get a fancy coffee machine and try and enjoy the higher echelon that coffee has.

>Is Ethiopia really the place to go for good beans?

Overall, yes. It's all down to who is doing the roasting. Good beans can be trashed in a roaster. I get Ethiopian, Kona and random Central American and Mexican beans depending on the price for whole beans.

I haven't been able to source Jamaican Blue Mountain to test it against what I know about Hakkar beans from Ethiopia. There's some kind of long term ban against export of Blue Mountain beans due to lack of supply.

Dont even spend silly money on a fancy machine, just get like a french press and a grinder or something. Simple, easy to care for, and it will tell if you you like good coffee, or it dosnt really make a difference, without spending a whole lot.

I was at a sushi place once and it was late at night, and i asked if they had coffee, and the only coffee they had was what the staff was making for themselves but they said sure i could have some and that they would make it special, and it was sooooo good.
