I've got over a hundred solo Victory Royales in Fortnite, and generally consider myself to be pretty good at it, which is something rare for me to be able to say about a video game.
I also have a couple Fortnite items I'm very proud of, for very different reasons:
- One Shot, an umbrella you could only get for obtaining Victory Royale in a limited time mode where you actually lose if you aren't aggressive/don't get enough kills, regardless of whether you were the last alive. This is basically Fortnite on hardmode, since it means you can't spend even a moment chilling or hiding - that's time wasted while others are stealing your kill points. The fact that I won a match of that, against 99 other people, blows my mind, and I'm legitimately very proud of myself.
- The Twilight Strikers, a set of harvesting tools that were hard to get because they required that you get tons of wins and achievements inside a really, really shitty poorly designed limited time mode. The idea was it was a rip off of Counter Strike, but it was just kinda janky and boring. Like, fun the first one or two matches, but to get the Strikers you had to play dozens and dozens and dozens aaaaaagh. I couldn't believe when I finally unlocked em, just in time before the event was gone forever. I don't even use them very often, but having made it through that hell makes them special. And I kinda laugh at myself for falling for the sunk cost fallacy - I very quickly realized it wasn't worth the grind, but I'd already made it a sixth of the way there, etc.
P.S. Mandatory "I know it's a game targeted at children and I'm an old lady so it's silly that I play at all, but also fuck you it's great, etc."
