Are you sick of topical threads?
Do you want to talk, but threads about tilapias and music leave you wanting?

Well have we got the thread for you!
From the makers of "pointless throwaway chat thread" and "hows ya friday?" comes a thread so pointless, so multitopical, that literally anyone can join in!

Its 'Chup to?!

The thread so uniquely vague that the topic could be anything at all!

Thanks.

Massive amounts of electricity really, to run the grow lights and filters. Yes, the plants would filter the water somewhat, but in a closed system, you would still get buildup. Problem is, you cant scale it up to a point where you are making enough to sustain yourself on without getting to wearhouse scales.

There are some videos of people on youtube that use like plastic totes, and do it all outside. Im not really that committed to raising a thing i could walk 7 yards and just catch tbh.

Considering the amount of fishing opportunities there are around me, the effort and money is best spent bagging a wild striper than trying to raise tilapia haha.

Yeah, but I've stopped my treatment for now until I figure out what's going on with my stomach, but so far nothing is helping.
You can treat the disease with immunosuppressants but you're probably not going to be back to 100%. Depends how your body reacts to the meds.
I'm not making much sense cause I'm tired from the anti-spastic meds I took.

but in any case, I don't know if anything out there will help my stomach and I'm concerned that the meds I was on were causing it.

It's gonna be hot today. 90F.

Sunday I went to the nearby lake beach since they're all still open. Was pretty dead out there but relaxing.

I forced myself to try to talk to someone before I leave cause I'm usually not one for trying to make friends with strangers. Someone was sitting on what I thought was a paddleboard so I asked em. Turns out I was right so just started talking to them about it and kayaks and such. They offered to let me try it out a couple times which surprised me, didn't expect it. Would have probably took them up on it but the covids made me a bit skittish to.

Well I just learned this. Sounds like a good way to make friends!

Paddle board seems like it could be fun but also work. Kayaks if I wanted I can just sit there and do nothing for a bit at least. Do it.

on thursday i had a relapse on drinking because my friend decided to take me out

i really didnt want to drink, but she kinda pressured me too and she offered to buy all the drinks for me (not like i could afford it anyway)

honestly proud of myself for able to really have many urges since

Haha yep, you never have to own anything around enthusiasts, because they always force you to try their stuff.
You are right, a kayak is basically a floating sofa, thats why i love them, but you can sorta do that on a paddle board as long as you dont mind sitting upright.

There's a pvp aspect, but the game mostly revolves around cooperative (or solo) missions. Heroes and villains have their own separate regions to do missions in. You know, the usual loop of talking to a contact, doing a mission for them, returning to contact.

I usually play hero, but I'm honestly a bigger fan of the villain side. It's just that most people play hero and the population isn't large enough to find villain teammates easily.

It's one of those ones where it isn't explicitly about sex. It's a dungeon crawler where you strip your enemies after you defeat them (though unlike Senran Kagura, all the good bits are on full display) and if you lose to a boss you get stripped and whipped in a dungeon forever.

I've been using an old tyme like, whorlly wheel of blades lawn mower lately and i really like it. Its not loud and smelly, and i feel like it makes me slow down and appreciate my yard more.

I bought a corded electric weed wacker today, so i suppose i should wack some weeds.

The speculated specs show an ecoboost 4cyl gasoline and a turbo 4cyl diesel, along with whatever v6 they are using now a days. But, speculation.

Yeah, it would be a sweet little package for ~16k as a base.

And yeah, im having some issues with my 2012 focus atm, esp electronic issues. Radio, fans, horn and a sensor all just decided "meh, ill get to it, maybe" haha.

Still, fanboy gonna fanboy.

You still have the mustang?

if the turbo diesel is true I'll be a bit interested. Idk about 16k, but under 20k...maybe? man I wish manufacturers would make bare bones versions of their cars. I'd buy the fuck out of a performance car with a great 0-60 and zero tech, features, or other comfort bullshit except maybe A/C because florida is hot and I need it...unless I move north

You might want to get rid of that thing.
I'm pretty sure the 2012 era focus' have notoriously bad transmissions.
Had a friend go through 2 of them before he got rid of his.

Yeah, im a big fan of fleet outfitted vehicles haha. Just the minimum, could care less for stuff like a touch screen and navigation.

Unfortunately, its pushed, esp in performance stuff. We are the 2nd string buyers though, the rich people who can buy that stuff at will, they want gizmos haha.

I just remembered, this truck ute thing prob wont be offered with a clutch :(

My focus is almost a relic as it has a standard transmission, normal radio, and roll up windows (only in the rear for some reason haha).

But yeah, i feel ya, every time something new comes along i get excited then remeber that a manual option is almost never afforded anymore.
This world I'll tell ya! Aint what it use to be.

Ok good.
Ford needs to step up their game.
Amazon just dropped their Exclusivity deal with Mercedes and commissioned Ford to start making their Vans.
We just got the new Vans in and,
They all have flimsy sliding door rails that don't close/
Like WTF, that's like, a really important part for a Van!

But From my experience the sliding doors struggle to close or the latch gets stuck .
On older models too. I bring a screwdriver to work now.

Wait, is it a mountain bike? Am i thinking of something else?

35ish km is about as far as i would commute on a bike given my own personal fatassery.

Oh man, dude, i saw the biggest fucking turtles yester and thought of you haha.

>>389841 It was on sale - normally goes for $36. I was looking to spend up to $50, so a decent rod including tackle for half my budget is pretty good. I haven't had a fishing rod of my own since I was a kid. I was looking for one that's a step-up from the super cheap ones, and with an open spool. I think this one fit the bill nicely. It's so much longer than the rods I'm used to. What's your ugly stick?

The biggest downfall of those budget set ups is the reel, but you can always upgrade that later and they work good enough.
The ugly stick is a rod that Shakespeare has been making for a long time, its the glock of fishing rods haha.
Mines a "kid" one so its really short, but thats perfect for the kayak, and i almost use it exclusively for trout using rooster tails so its perfect. They are like whips haha, super bendy so i can get a good cast even in the confined space.

Oh, that looks like a cool stick. I think this one's intended for surf fishing, but I'm taking it to the river tomorrow. A buddy of mine and I have been trying to go for a few weeks now and take our dogs.
I need to get some small sinkers. the ones included in the kit are MASSIVE. maybe a bobber as well.

Mostly just smoothness of the cast and reel, which can lead to tangled line. Not that big of a deal, but can be frustrating and there is no saying yours is going to be that way.
The other thing is pre spooled line tends to bind up, keeps its shape so its all loopy. Again, #notallpackagereels but, if you experience that stuff, a reline might help.
Being that its a Shakespeare set up, they probably arnt giving you garbage as they are a pretty reputable company.

Why did the movie make you upset?

Me and Mac watched a Korean film called 'Blind' last night about a woman who's dreams of joining the police are crushed when a horrendous accident causes her to go blind and lose her only sibling. Fast forward three years and she's living alone with a guard dog, and by chance gets involved with the hunt for a mysterious and dangerous criminal with the help of some other unlikely people.

I can't say much more without giving spoilers, but while it is a pretty long movie and takes a good while to set everything up, the payoff is a ton of exciting fast-paced suspense, twists, emotional moments with characters you'll actually give a crap about, and one hell of an intense finale.

Its a very good balance between powerful emotional stuff, and brutal dark violent stuff.

Not a specific place (iirc) although my mom/dad/brother have done hiking so I could ask them what they think of different places.

I guess at some point I do want to try hiking, I just have like...concerns about it, I guess. Relating to whether or not I'd be able to do it, for one reason or another. >_>

Although I have wondered about fishing. I think that if there was a place to fish with an easily accessible bathroom, that could potentially be fun. I used to go fishing with my dad every once in awhile.

Just flip the top do-whacky and put your finger on the string until you want to cast, then once you cast, flip the hoosamahoggy back down and reel.
You'll get it!

Im sure there is a bait shop that sells night crawlers around. You cant go wrong with a good ol fashioned American worm (from canada).

>>389952 That all sounds very technical. I figured out that if I start reeling, it will automatically pop the hoosamahoggy back down to do-whacky resting position, but only sometimes. I also flipped the crank from left handed position to right handed, but in the process, I noticed the allen wrench/pin was bent. I don't know if this is intentional to keep the crank from hitting the thingamabobber, or if someone dropped it on its handle at some point and bent it. In any case, it seems to work, even if it isn't flush.

Is there a reason people don't use local worms?

Yeah, you can do that but it will damage the mechanism over time, so i dont suggest it. But, i feel cool to do haha.

People switched to south paw handles because you can cast with your right hand, and set a hook without switching hands to reel if you get a bit right away. Its become common enough that its kinda standard now and they come that way out of the box. Took a while for me to get used to it.

I guess they dont like digging? Haha.
Idk, i think its just because the biggest worm farms are primarily in canada and night crawlers are native up there (at least, idk where else they are native). There might be some US based ones, i haven't really thought about it.

It is janky. I feel like its one of those things that made its way down from sport bass fishing to the casual market for no reason other than "the pros do it" and people want what they see on TV. The only time it comes in handy is if you get a strike the second your lure hits the water. Its been the way fly fishing has been forever because thats the way you fly fish, and if you use a ruster tail it can happen sometimes, but honestly 9/10 times its unnecessary. Esp if your doing bait and a float.

Night crawlers are bigger than any worms we have around here, but we basicly only have earth worms here.

Well allergies have been kicking my ass for the last week or so and I've been losing sleep as a result. Went and got myself some fuck-off powerful cough syrup to deal with that.
Went and got myself a haircut today. My bangs had gotten long enough to cover my eyes over the lock-down period and it's getting too damn hot out to have long hair. Speaking of heat my pool water has crept-up to 80 degrees, even despite my adding cold water to it every three days or so.
Finally I also found a Woolrich lightweight ripstop field jacket at Goodwill for $6. This one is very similar to the M65 but lighter, lacking the roll-away hood and having a pair of small zippered inside pockets. Is a pre-production sample. Don't know if they ever produced them en-mass.

There was also a retired vet there when I first pulled up. He was using a grabber to pick up trash from the area around the boat ramp. I walked over to him and thanked him for it; I don't think enough people appreciate the effort that goes into keeping landings even moderately clean.

>>391078 just a little ways downriver, it slows quite a bit. the locals won't swim there due to alligators.

I was using a crappie rig, with a jig head and a bobber, sinking between 3-5 feet, casting upriver and then floating it down. lost a couple in the trees on the other side unfortunately. problem was, the bait was bits of cooked chicken strips, which were too tender and fell apart, sometimes on the first cast. As I reeled it in, tiny fish were chasing after and nibbling it, so the fish liked it; it just wouldn't stay on the hook.

a large softshell turtle came up to investigate the bobber. and there was also a tiny turtle that came up behind it at one point.

also saw some mussels moving along the sandbar - never seen them actively moving before; just the trails. I wonder if they were the critically endangered Ochlockonee moccasinshell. I can't tell mussels apart.

It's been a long time since I've been fishing, but I went a good several times with my dad in my youth. Sometimes it was super boring, other times it was actually pretty exciting.
Although sometimes it was exciting for the wrong reasons--we had multiple incidents of fish hooks getting stuck in my dad and brother. Can't remember if I got one stuck in me, I feel like if I had it would have been painful enough to remember. Also I'm not just talking about regular hooks, I mean sometimes the four-pronged ones as well.
Oh, and taking a fish home to gut it and cook it always seemed...pretty gruesome to me.

Maybe if you cook the chicken? Or if you use a denser muscle, like the breast?

Watch out for turtles, and try to avoid catching them because their mouths are hard and its really difficult and sometimes impossible to get the hook out, which is a bad situation for all involved.

>also saw some mussels moving along the sandbar - never seen them actively moving before; just the trails. I wonder if they were the critically endangered Ochlockonee moccasinshell. I can't tell mussels apart.

Something to investigate maybe!

There is no sure fire way to avoid turtles, but if you can see it swimming towards your bait, i would try to pull it away and reel it back in quick.

My brother had a life jacket but my dad didn't and had to swim a massive distance to shore in stormy waters, and with his health (even back then) its nearly a miracle he survived it. My brother was basically cheering him on from the shore, yelling to him "Please, you can do it, you can make it" etc.
I wasn't there but it sounded like it was something out of a literal nightmare. They were both taken to a hospital and me/my mom rushed to see them. "Fun" fact: We accidentally went to the wrong hospital at first.

We will.
Tbh I'm about ready to go home, though. Like, knowing I'll be physically apart from Mac again is brutal, BUT I am looking forward to being in my home state with my family, my house, my Xbox etc. I think what it comes down to is that living together with either of our moms as well is...not ideal. Like, the time me and Mac have had to ourselves has been fantastic, and there has been a lot of it, but then the times where his mom is home is often SUCH a slog. Its like we're just constantly waiting for the next period of time to ourselves whereas in an actual permanent living-together situation, it would be just us, and we could interact how we actually want to on a more consistent basis.
Getting to that point, though...well, its gonna take some figuring out/planning. These last six weeks were overall great and very worthwhile but I can't deny that this time, I have some actual homesickness. This is THE longest I have EVER been away from home in my entire life. Its quite an accomplishment, really, and I'm lucky to have been granted these opportunities to have increasingly long trips here.
But...I am ready to be home, for awhile at least.

Its good you broke a boundary in how long you've been away from home and that it was a positive experience.

Thanks. I've never paddled a canoe this big by myself, so I've been doing a lot of research on the subject before i try to attempt it.

Its 14 feet.

The difference is, there is more bow, and a bow becomes a sail when you paddle alone, and the more bow in front of you, the more the wind will throw you around.

No, there is a yolk in the middle.

Yeah, it is, but ive only paddled those old town kayak canoe hybrid things alone.
I also dont have 100lbs of gear to bring with me ever time i wanna go out for a pleasure cruse.
So, im just reading up on the best methods before just running out and tossing it in a river that has a bunch of waterfalls is all.

Yep, I've gone out on my own in largish canoes and not been able to get anywhere because of a moderate breeze. Is very frustrating.

Kneeling as close to center as possible seems to be the prevailing theory im finding.
Sitting in the front seat backwards and paddling the stern forward also seems to be pretty standard.
