Yeah, kinda killed any ability for the progressives to sink their teeth into me.
I can't help but see the Communists as bad (if not worse) than Hitlers Nazi movement.

That "eat the rich" rhetoric sounds the same to me as "kill the jews". Meme's aside.

Yeah, once I got out of school and into my work I was out of New York pretty quickly. Since then I've bounced around stateside and abroad.

Admittedly, I find it funny how much less political life gets when you're out of those megacities. Especially particular politically inclined cities like NYC.

I mean that people don't care or really keep up with politics anywhere near as much.
In a City a lot of people sound like a talking head for a particular party or organization, while in the suburbs and further out it's been more just regular people and their own self interests. In my experiences.

>>381458

I guess that makes sense up to the point. In my experience most of the facebook political people have been either in the burbs or the country, but I am biased because I don't have any family in cities at all.

That said, how does working for the government square with a distrust in government?

I don't truly consider myself a New Yorker in the proper sense. Frankly I don't truly have ties to any particular place, and just bounce to where I'm told or the most comfortable.
Part of the reason I want to learn how to fly, so I can just have a much large area I can live.

>>381471
There is a difference between people on facebook and IRL. At the end of the day it's all anecdotes, but hey I can only speak from my experiences.

Having already said that I grew up in NYC - the Twin Towers effected me deeply. You combine that with the strong sense of pride for being an American (as instilled in my immigrant parents), and you have a person that wants to help the country in whatever capacity available. So I went into University and learned how to be a good paper pusher.
I think I continue doing it because I feel like I'm doing the most good in my position by trying to keep things honest, but maybe that's just me playing mental gymnastics to justify my conflict of interest.

I will admit that rural cultural is a lot more of "I don't give a fuck about what you believe as long as we don't really talk about it" up until you start to cross it with bible belt culture and it is just all so disingenuous.

You are actually probably doing the best of any of us who complain about the government. Can't really do better at making something better than by working from the inside. That is why I do the science that I do.

Thanks for that. Honestly I don't hate the Gov. I just dislike how it seems like people want to put so much more faith into it than needed. Speaking from my experiences, it's a clown fiesta of a lot of retards not understanding how to do the basics and then looking for some scapegoat to put the blame on. It could be a lot worse but that's not a highbar.
That's why I just want the Gov to be more of a small regulatory body to make sure people are playing fair. Not the big Pimp Daddy that can tell us what to do and how to live our daily lives.

I feel like "a clown fiesta of a lot of retards not understanding how to do the basics and then looking for some scapegoat to put the blame on" is basically any bureaucracy large enough. That could also be argued pretty well for the review process for scientific papers.

Environmental regulations are the one thing that I really care about when it comes to government. It is very easy for someone to fuck over everyone around them without a pimp daddy to keep them in line.

You don't need a pimp daddy to regulate. IMO.
Environmental regulations are also important, but it all has to be within reason. The same costs in order to institute higher environmental causes could've been used for humanitarian efforts instead. We also have proof that the humanitarian efforts bring about measurable changes while billions of dollars in environmental causes gets us a few years at the most before their benefits are marginal at best.
Not saying they aren't important just that utility has to be calculated.

How do you prevent something like what happened with the romane lettuce last year without big daddy regulations? Just because someone can contaminate a stream that eventually is used for irrigation water for a farm by letting their cattle wade in it doesn't mean they should. The real problem with environmental regulations is that many of them don't necessarily make sense when you don't look a bit under the surface. Groundwater is a very good example because many people think that it is basically the same as mineral rights, where what you have below you is yours and nobody else's, but all groundwater flows. If your neighbor decides to sink a well and make a bottling plant in the right area, he could easily dry up your well or your gas tank for your tractors could leak and contaminate his water.
There are definitely some silly causes, but most environmental regulations are based on much more complex systems that seem pretty simple if someone doesn't take a few minutes and think about it.

First of all I thought we were talking about regulations aimed towards Climate Change.
Mistake happen and safety should be present when making decisions. I still don't believe that having a "big brother" in place would actually solve all the issues instead of just creating more governmental bulk. The entire notion of "more rules and more watchmen" creating a better society doesn't seem to always play out that way.

Cato (ID: fc062c)Country code: ro, country type: geoip, valid: 1  381508

hmm, I see where you are coming from there, but I am pretty jaded when it comes to those kinds of issues specifically. It seems like, and makes sense that it is one of those things that people need some kind of real encouragement to actually consider and, like in our justice system, heavy-handedness seems to get the attention of everyone but the worst offenders.

and I am sorry about the climate change thing, but many of the "climate change" regulations fall under the more complex banner, especially when considering emissions.
