#Politics
"Democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what to have for dinner. They vote for free breadsticks. They go to the restaurant, which will only sell breadsticks at the usual price. The wolves say they voted for free breadsticks, and the choice of the populace must be obeyed. The sheep warns them that the breadsticks are getting cold and hard while they wait, and that if they don’t come to a decision soon then they are “sleepwalking into a disastrous hard breadstick” that will ruin their dinner. In an eleventh-hour vote, the wolves reject paying the restaurant’s price for breadsticks, and also reject leaving the restaurant without breadsticks. Eventually they all die of starvation." [1]

why would a bunch of animals sit at a table of a restaurant and demand breadsticks, if you're gonna make a poor comparison at least make one that bothers to make sense

I feel like whoever wrote this has never heard of Buridan's ass and so tried to rewrite two wolves and sheep into something akin to it but wasn't quite intelligent enough to pull it off.

Regardless of whether you were pro-Brexit or anti-Brexit, I think we can all agree that sleepwalking into a no-deal Brexit would have been a disaster logistically at least in the short-term.

Democracy, like every other political formation to ever exist within the framework of a state is simply a cover for one class to repress all others. The only question then, is which class will repress and which will be repressed.

Nah, I'm pretty sure Brexit was good regardless of how it was done. There is literally no good reason to be beholden to unelected, extranational bureaucrats. If anything joining the EU and then needing to Brexit in the first place was the stupid thing.

I don't think that's possible, for the simple reason that no matter what adverse effects result from Brexit, those who are for it will still blame the EU for being a big bunch of meanies who don't just let them keep all of the benefits without any of the responsibilities.

If you're associated with a name that is the only real signifier of who you are, especially in an online community, that name being used to describe you with all of the connotations and history of you or your actions isn't anything more than letting people know who you are and what you've done.

That's far easier of a solution than typing paragraphs to tell someone who someone else else is.

My boyfriend enjoys seeing me post in these places as it "allows me to give inputs that I wouldn't be able otherwise with just the two of us". However, I do not like the "pony" aspect.
It's kind of complicated but basically I tried to post nameless, but with enough features so that someone, if they look hard enough, knew it would be me.
Plus there is also a bit of past shames, you know? I was a completely different person in 2011 and I cringe HARD thinking about such things.

From what I've seen there's a "Fight" sense that unless they're taken by surprise any long range attacks won't work. And in this "Fight mode" they can prepare their bodies for the utter bullshit of getting thrown through mountains.

For most people, a change of name represents a change in how they perceive themselves and wish to be perceived by others. Not wanting to be called by their old name isn't necessarily about burying the past or repressing memories. If someone who used to be called Tom goes by Sophia now, whatever their reason may be, you're not giving them exposure therapy or helping them "conquer the past" or whatever by continuing to call them Tom. You're simply expressing denial of the progression and personal changes that name change represents, vainly attempting to keep them chained to who they used to be. And, if most people have gotten on board with the identity change or didn't know them when they were Tom at all, outing yourself as an obstinate jackass to boot.

On a separate note, it's silly to feel self-conscious about cringy but harmless things you did when you were younger. Being cringe as a kid or teen is just a universal part of growing up. If you're still self conscious about that 10 years down the line, can you really say you've moved past it? Are you really going to be forever haunted by the fact that you, along with hundreds of thousands or millions of others, got really hyped up about a colorful horsie cartoon in 2011? Because I dunno, that sounds pretty cringe to me.

>>360495
I would love to forget I tried out for the football team tbh. Now that was cringe.

Anyway, there's a difference between wanting to forget something and wanting to not be constantly reminded of it. I agree it's silly to fuss about having been cringe in 2011, especially on a website consisting entirely of people who were also cringe in 2011, but it's not like that's the only reason for her name change anyway. It was also due to transitioning. Besides that, she's been Iara since at least like 2014 I think. If you're still that desperate to call her Italo a solid 6 years after the fact then I'm sorry, but that makes you the cringelord here.

Usernames have no actual impact on your actual life or is an actual part of your identity. A username has no gender actually imbued into it and only serves to help people know who they're communicating with. It's essentially harmless where as your IRL name is your identity.

A former username is still accurate to an online person as to represent who they were, and they chose to represent themselves online under that name. Tracer can change his name a million more times, but it would still be correct to call him Tracer since that was a name he chose to call himself at some point.

To sit there and accuse someone of being an asshole for "deadnaming" a username just seems empty and meaningless. That's why I'm asking if that was their actual name that they have tried to have change or whatnot.

I dunno. To me, a name is a name, whether it's one you gave yourself or the one your parents gave you. IRL names have more life-altering baggage attached to them, yeah, but in day-to-day life they ultimately have the same function: identifying a person.

Also I don't think you can argue in good faith that a username like, for instance, StonerBro420 or PrettiestPrincess69 has no gender associated with it. Crude and lazy examples, sure, and you could point to examples from this very thread like Satsuki, the name of a female anime character, being used as a tripcode by a cis guy (to my knowledge anyway), but that hardly proves gendered connotations for usernames don't exist at all, only that the lines are blurry sometimes.

Anyway, I don't really care to continue discoursing about this and am supposed to be analyzing Argus flow records and writing a report on them right now. Cheers.
