MLP turns to gender stereotypes (ID: b056a4)Country code: ponychan.png, country type: customflag, valid:   341877

#Politics
So I've noticed this since season 4 appeared. Im writing to express my feelings about "MLP Friendship is magic" series. Season 1-3 was a personal favorite of mine because I liked how you reversed the gender roles. You "added an ingredient" which I can only describe as a sense of superiority of the girl ponies: emotional, social status (spitfire), behavioral (RD, AJ) and more. I think the episodes in season 4 (and the following seasons) "changed directions" and gave the male ponies the upper hoof. It made me feel uncomfortable while watching. It disappointed me. It made me feel as if you were imposing the stereotype of whats male and female.
I doesnt feel like a "girlshow" anymore

Can you give some examples?

You know, I didn't think about this, but I did go back to check and there's an interesting sort of change in the writing staff. Obviously faust left after the first season, but you also notice that in the beginning 9/10 episodes were written by women, and after the second season it's more like 1/2.

I don't know if I share your thoughts on power dynamics quite, but it does feel like something changed.

Oh boy I could give you so many examples - such as Applejacks dad passing on the hat instead of the mother doing it. I recommend you watching this: MLP Comic Dub - Core of the Apple: Part 3 (sad)
The story is just so much more touching and makes more sense than the one in the series. There is this "thing" about passing on your things to your children but in the MLP universe it should be a "mother to daughter" relationship

Thanks for your tactful reply tho

I assume this post is directed to me?
>Applejacks dad passing on the hat instead of the mother doing it.
Wasn't it his hat to give though? I dont see a problem with a father giving his daughter a hat, and i certainly dont see any male power undertones to it.

Its a female show. It should be a "mother to daughter" thing

I always thought what made it kind of special was that is wasn't really a "female" or "male" show, it was just a show that had female protagonists.

If it were a "male show", would there be a problem with a mother giving her son something?

Blame the generally mediocre trend of animation that's only recently started to reverse, that's made the greater audience so thirsty that they commandeer a little girl's show just because it's an oasis of mediocrity in a desert of crap.

No if it was the mother giving her son the hat I would assume that the show implies that females are the main pony who passes on something to her children.
