Blizzard pulls Blitzchung from Hearthstone tournament over support for Hong Kong protests Mk17!!Trixie (ID: 0d4e25)Country code: us, country type: geoip, valid:   338251

>Blizzard also canceled the pro player's prize winnings and banned him from Hearthstone esports for 12 months.
>Blizzard, the company behind both the game Hearthstone and the competition, said in a statement that Blitzchung had broken a rule. The rule in question involved "engaging" in an act that "in Blizzard's sole discretion" brings into "public disrepute, offends a portion or group of the public or otherwise damages" Blizzard's image.

>offends a portion or group of the public or otherwise damages" Blizzard's image.

I think they are doing a fine job of that themselves.

>Blizzard is part-owned by Chinese company Tencent. As of 2017, the company owned 4.9% of shares in Activision Blizzard. It also has stakes in video game companies like Ubisoft, Epic and Riot Games among others.

Who'd have guessed?

Top notch company. If i ever planned to give them anymore money, thats over.
I was thinking about the new CoD and the mobile CoD, but i suppose my decision has been made for me.
They use to be the best, now they are the absolute worst imo.

Not tagged pol because its about a company, but if its requested i will

I mean CoD Mobile is free, you can play that without giving Tencent any money, and not only that but the new Modern Warfare has nothing to do with Tencent or Blizzard sooo...

Activision is the parent company, they are the ones pulling the strings, CoD requires the blizz launcher iirc.
Nope, honestly i already decided this a while ago because of Activision and blizzard sucking so hard, so it doesn't really change much besides that almost got me back.
Sneaky bitches.

I dont judge anyone who does play their stuff, unless they start judging me first haha.

A pretty good breakdown of the situation
Activision Blizzard Faces Mass Protests/Boycott, BANS Pro Player For "Dissing" Chinese Govt.

Also, didnt exactly realize that tencent was the Chinese company that owned the stock in all these other game companies that are caving to any and all whims of the Chinese government.
Fuck. That.
No way in hell i want there trash on my phone. The big thing holding me back from getting it in the first place was that i didnt feel like reading the T&S agreement just to find out they own my soul so i can pewpew vidja.

J. Allen Brack should resign and apologize to the community immediately.
He might say that it's got nothing to do with China's influence. However, on Blizzard's Chinese outlets, they state very clearly that they will "firmly protect the pride of our country", so I take the president's message as complete nonsense.

I will contend that the prepatch for WoW: WOTLK was cooler, even though it straddles the line between server maintenance and an expansion pack release. It was eight phases, one day each:
1. Plagued boxes start appearing in a neutral port town. Players are infect with the plague, and turn into zombies. The zombies spread the plague to other players. The only cure is to find a special healer, before it's too late.
2. The boxes start appearing in capital cities.
3. As the healers got taxed, the plague gets quicker. It's much harder to be cured.
4. The plague is now deadly fast, and undead citadels are now floating above the cities.
5. The plague is basically instant now, and the healers are essentially gone. All trade in the cities is breaking down, and it's starting to mess with players' ability to organize.
6. You get a quest to give a briefing to your faction's leader
7. The plague has been cured (at this point it's been seven days of bedlam, you can't get shit done in a city without being attacked by ghouls)
(Like a week later) 8. The citadels open up, and skeletal dragons and hulking flesh-abominations attack the capital city. The playerbase has to fight it off. The Lich King mocks your pitiful kingdoms and taunts you to come to his, in hopes of killing you and making you into new soldiers...

I have never been more hyped for a game update.

That is pretty cool.
Didnt something like that happen unintentionally when there was a boss that would infect people and after the fight the infection was relieved, but their pets remained infected and spread it throughout the over world?

Its too bad blizzard went from making fun games to striping people of their livelihoods for daring to speak out against china.

Yes, Corrupted Blood. The disease was meant to only spread to the raid group, but some hunter found out you could dismiss your pet after catching it and the debuff wouldn't be removed when you left the raid area.

Blizzard...I like some blizzard games. But they were always art for money's sake. Every blizzard game is someone else's game with the edges smoothed off. All their stories are the same anti-hero story copy and pasted over and over again. Their artwork very heavily cribs from obvious other sources. When the chinese government said "no bones, no zombies"...they edited an entire undead expansion to be undead-free, at great cost of time and money, to get access to the Chinese market.

If people expected *activision-blizzard* to do anything other than roll over and wag their tail for money, I just don't know what to say. It is 110% in their playbook, I could've easily predicted this if I kept up competitive whatever it was. In addition, blizzard has been desperately seeking to recreate the korean esports scene since brood war, and they see potential in China. Oh how they want that money, that glam!

Edelweiss !Metta5sWWk (ID: 4c763c)Country code: us, country type: geoip, valid: 1  339737

Fun fact: a hilarious coincidence of this stupid anti-gore law, is that they censored loose meat into loaves of bread. Only, scholomance, the lich king's academy for necromancers, has a bunch of meat everywhere from their macabre rituals. Faced with having to redo all of Scholomance anyway and undead being a general no-no, they shrugged and turned it into a goofy bakery, where all the bakers attack on site to force feed you bread.

The last blizzard game i liked was WC3. SC2 was fun for multiplayer, but i really didnt like the single player campaign at all, and it was just dripping with WoW influence.
Like, how did Jim Raynor turn from a balding, kinda goofy, middle aged guy to this like, godlike stoic character with a flowing head of hair?
Little stuff like that.

Ether way, i think at the turn of the millennium, they were great, true to their word, and produced games that had that labor of love feel, but after WoW it was all down hill.

>>339737

Why dont they just do this stuff on the Chinese servers exclusively? Probably because it would be extra work i suppose.

Oh, they did, Int'l servers still have death-and-gore scholomance. China thoooo...

Blizzard writing peaked in Frozen Throne, it was the point where they could finally deliver the pure form of what they were thinking of. Personally I think Starcraft writing was always shoddy, but not bad.

WoW came, and it was still good. Classic WoW's writing is underrated, it's very naturalistic. There's a real focus on 'world' that died immediately after classic. Then, Burning Crusade happened, and it was starting to get a little forced. Then, Wrath of the Lich King happened, and Arthas flirted with being a Saturday morning cartoon villain. Wings of Liberty came out and was cartoonishly stupid. By Cataclysm the writing was dead, by Pandaria it was accidental self-parody, modern WoW is so recycled and bad that they had to switch timelines to reuse all the old bosses, but still give them power ups so the MILL CAN GO ONWARDS AND UPWARDS. Rock bottom, in my book, is later Starcraft, which I have not personally played but everything I've heard is an absolute horror story. They gave up and made it MP only, and essentially only wrote the backstory to make fan artists happy.
