Vote in your local elections Edelweiss (ID: 6cb979)Country code: us, country type: geoip, valid:   338193

Reminder that your local elections have the largest impact on you personally and you should go out and vote, no matter how slim the pickings -- if you're like my town, at 5% turnout your vote has disproportionate value

If you're a pinko and you read the big pinko books, you think that capitalism will naturally fuck over the common man so badly that violent popular revolt is inevitable. Accelerationists believe that attempting to resist this is pointlessly stretching out the suffering, so you should intentionally help the process along to make it happen sooner. It's an extremely nihilistic viewpoint.

Rough.
I hate when people read a book or like, a website or some shit and then decide its time for the killings.
That happens too much.

Accelerationists usually do praxis by
-staying at home on election day
-staying at home on demonstration days
-refusing to do anything for their neighbors
-refusing to join labor movements
-refusing to join social movements
-POST ENDLESSLY ABOUT HOW EVERYTHING IS HOPELESS IN RESPONSE TO EVERY NEWS EVENT
They're not all this way, but, a lot of them are indistinguishable from lazy middle class people insulated from any real problems.

PS: the most recent US political violence trend pretty heavily towards far right terrorism, especially ecofascism. And also being unwell mentally.

Well, its good to know a group that wants to pop off some kind of violent revolution is also too lazy to do it.

I didnt make any distinction regarding left / right politics so that comment seemed a bit unnecessary if not a tad defensive.
But, noted.

This is not to say there aren't tankies who want revolution now. Personally, nah, I don't think the public will to make that work is here yet nor do I think it's coming soon. They all know it, too, which is why they never try shit.

The vast majority have utilities, shelter, food, and for the most part, the ability to conduct their lives unmolested.
Those are not the conditions that breed violent revolution except in the minds of absolute ideologues.
We will see how long that lasts though.

Also, you both smell good

I think the point of her comment was that nominally left-wing accelerationists are de facto aiding the right-wing ones by stacking the odds in their favor, rather than a clapback to an imagined comment about left-wing political violence.

Some l/accs are arguably doing so intentionally, because what better way to radicalize the left than to give them a radical right to fend off, or something. Never mind the pointless bloodshed and loss of innocent life this would entail...

As wealth is increasingly funneled upward to the wealthy in increasingly brazen ways, the ability to live your life unmolested is going away globally. But, this is not class politics general, this is local politics general.

Far more interesting is the fucking awful state of my local election, which our choices are:

Mayor
1) Incumbent ultra-centrist democrat techbro working for the local big corporation. A vote for me is a vote for more gentrification, more dedication of resources to the aging, wealthy voting base that wants to turn out to every election socially.
2) Woke? Black pharmacist who put just, the most minimal effort into campaigning. Literally a one-page substance-free virtue signalling wordpress page that self describes as "not actively campaigning". I can't even meaningfully tell you what her politics are, other than she likes representation.

Town council
Uncontested. Your only vote is for an ultra-centrist democrat who will do all the things the incumbent mayor is already doing.

Transport bond
Fix some existing roads, and not do what every really, desperately wants statewide: an actual fucking train system for local transit, the one we keep voting for and then mysteriously disappears after the initial planning.

Park bond
Build some more parks to make them more accessible to the (other) middle class part of town. It's actually a pretty park they've planned, though.

All in all, shit election but at 5% turnout I feel like the bonds will probably pass. They usually do.

>But, this is not class politics general, this is local politics general.
Good call.

It sounds like your basically voting on that park then, unless you wanna just toss a protest vote to that lady running for mayor.
More land reserved for nature is good, regardless of location imo, but most parks around here are left wild with nature trails carved through them, yours sounds like a nice lawn with a swing set i imagine.
Whats the deal with the train? Is no one asking why its been approved and not implemented?

I have no elections this year, but on note of local politics, i was thinking this morning, while listening to the radio, about how the SCOTUS decision regarding trans rights that the hearing started for, wont effect me locally ether way, because trans rights are already secured in my state.
That lends itself to your OP point that your local politics having much more influence over central/national.

Thats not commentary one way or the other regarding that case mind you, its just, ether way the decision is made wont change anything regarding the people who live in my state.

We have not, unfortunately, secured trans rights in my area. Which is really bad for me personally. It's unlikely that'll change any time soon without dogged fighting, dogged fighting that the establishment is very good at resisting. And their base loooves it! We don't have an evangelical domination here, but we DO have southern baptists, and southern baptists are the ANGRIEST branch of christendom I've ever seen. Angry about anything and everything! Especially other Christians! They fucking HATE people who baptise differently! So you can imagine how they feel about race, sex, and gender politics. It suddenly occurs to me that I don't know precisely where you're from, so I may be explaining shit you know.

I hope the park is nice, when I probably don't live here in 8 years. I have slowly accepted that, even in WOKE urban NC, I'm gonna get treated like shit. So it's time to leave if I get a chance.

And for your benefit, i hope they find in favor of trans rights, though i wish a better case was brought.
This morning they found in favor of the plaintiff in an ADA discrimination suite that claimed dominoes pizza violated the ADA by not making their website accessable, under the logic that the ADA did not cover websites and mobile devices, simply because of oversite at the time it was wtitten.
Perhaps that logic can be argued regarding trans folk and the equality act.

Thats foreign to me, because there are southern baptist churches here, and most all of them have an LGBT flag flying out front. My grandmother was a southern Baptist and my cousin who lived with her had all her assorted lesbian lovers live there too haha.
I'm from RI but i have friends and family in NC, so i know how it can be.
I just did a trip through the smokey mountains and took the back roads from Gatlinburg TN to Whitsett NC and yeah... I can confirm the churches on that route did not fly an LGBT flag, or give a vibe that they might anytime soon. Quite the opposite.

Yes, a better case be brought.

I dont like the ambiguity of whether or not she was fired because she was trans, or because she violated a dress code. Also, I dont like the emotional case that can be made about making grieving people uncomfortable, and whether you think that being a factor is right or wrong, it is.

Its a messy case, and strategically, its not the one i would have pursued to the scotus.

Tbh, im a bit scared they chose to hear this one over others for that reason.

But, you go to war with the army you have, not the one you wish you had, i suppose.
