Poison, from the Final Fight series, was originally intended as a smaller more random character to contrast the bulkier, standard characters in the game. However, the Japanese feared that being allowed to hit women in a video game would cause feminists in America to sue them, they changed her status to "newhalf" which is basically Japanese slang for a pre-op transgender woman. She was eventually removed from sequels of the game entirely due to concerns of the entire concept being offensive. At this point in time her gender status is considered 'ambiguous' as far as Capcom is concerned, however Street Fighter IV's producer Yoshinori Ono, when asked in an interview about the matter, stated: "Let's set the record straight: In North America, Poison is officially a post-op transsexual woman. But in Japan, she simply tucks her business away to look female."
