https://www.theguardian.com/society/datablog/2016/dec/13/europeans-massively-overestimate-muslim-population-poll-shows

Pretty old article, but it's the first time I'm seeing it, and it Really Made Me Think. Even I had just a few tiny sips of that fearmongering kool-aid at the time, probably because I was dumb enough to be on /pol/ right when the 2015 attacks in Paris happened.

On a lighter note, it seems people in western countries tend to overestimate how many people around them are homophobic. Good sign that maybe there are fewer transphobes out there than I expect as well.

Admittedly, this thread partly exists to dunk on anti-immigrant/nativist types, cuz I'm a petty ass hoe, but it's just as much dunking on myself. I think we all need a reminder from time to time that nobody is immune to fearmongering and propaganda, and too few people exercise due diligence in checking their worldview against the measurable facts. It's an interesting question to think about: how much of what we think we know about the world around us is just assumption, grounded in anecdote rather than fact?

How do you think your perception of the world stacks up to reality?

Chewy!!Twilight Sparkle (ID: c1565b)Country code: us, country type: geoip, valid: 1  243148

I'm pretty positive there is a large amount of people on 4chan/8chan etc. who base their beliefs almost exclusively on anecdotal (and often fictional) stories from other chan users as well as infographs found there (without ever actually checking sources or comparing them against other info, of course) and this contributes to a narrow view of politics/society/people in general etc., often not just narrow but also very cynical, angsty, paranoid etc.
The real outside world isn't actually as terrifying as people on chans would often have you believe, assuming you don't live in some hellhole. Like yeah obviously bad shit happens but not the way the denizens of places like /pol/ would have you believe. Like there aren't militant squads of feminists and SCARY BLACK MEN hiding in the bushes waiting to pounce on you with chainsaws as soon as you step a few feet away from your house.
To expand on this further: A lot of people on the chans get ALL of their news from the chans, but most people on the chans get their news from stupid cherrypicked sources (ex. Infowars) and will post them over and over and call anything that contradicts it or even calls it into question as having a "liberal bias" or of course "fake news" and so you have these people who religiously visit places like /pol/ and see the same cherrypicked, dumb shit posted over and over and so they start believing that all that shit is actually happening everywhere all the time.

Also I'm sick of people citing statistics as a valid reason to be terrified of some group of people. Like say there are statistics that say "65% of X minority has committed Y crime" and people will be like "Y-YOU SEE, YOU CAN NEVER TRUST X MINORITY!!" without considering that like, a person themselves is not just a statistic, and statistics, regardless of what way they lean, do not even remotely guarantee that every example of the subject will be anything like what the statistic is trying to "prove."

I've tried to tell people this since the beginning but people just think I'm naive, or stupid, or uninformed.

This does not surprise me at all. Of course, people will continue to go on not ever listening to me because why would anything ever change, right?

How not to be ignorant about the world | Hans and Ola Rosling

>How do you think your perception of the world stacks up to reality?

On this question... i would have probably over estimated, simply because i know a lot of Muslims. There were a few families from Iran and Pakistan in my town and i went to school with all the brothers and sisters and whatnot, so i would have prob guess a bit high as its my personal experience.

I might also underestimate xenophobia too because I'm around a lot of races, but i would expect most people to overestimate it, because according the the news, the world is as filled with hatred, bigotry, crime and violence as its ever been, when really, the opposite is true.

Five percent (5%) is still too many, considering what the average Muslim in Europe is like. If they can't assimilate to their new country's culture, they should GTFO.

Also, I wish there were a nop word in English to use in cases where one wants to start a sentence with non-alphabetic character. (The rule that a sentence must start with a uppercase letter is actually useful because it aids in scanning for the start of a sentence.)

Leviticus 25:44-45
44 Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property.

Exodus 21:7-9
7 “When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. 8 If she does not satisfy her owner, he must allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. 9 But if the slave’s owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave but as a daughter.

Leviticus 24:13-16
13 Then the Lord said to Moses: 14 “Take the blasphemer outside the camp. All those who heard him are to lay their hands on his head, and the entire assembly is to stone him. 15 Say to the Israelites: ‘Anyone who curses their God will be held responsible; 16 anyone who blasphemes the name of the Lord is to be put to death. The entire assembly must stone them. Whether foreigner or native-born, when they blaspheme the Name they are to be put to death.

Well yeah. Every faction that engages in conflict needs to exclude their target group from the receipt of "human rights" in order to justify conflict against them. In many such scenarios, the conflict is in fact defensive and abstinence would result in your destruction. You only have as many rights as you do in the eyes of your worst enemy.

If there's one person out there who denies you the rights you ascribe yourself, because of the arms race effect, you endanger yourself by reciprocating rights to him. If you're the only one who acts on principle and not self-interest, to the point of dying before you betray your principles, you're just destroying the agent of those principles and selecting for those who don't carry them.
It's silly to think rights were ever relevant, it's just group conflict. Monkeys make up trippy shit to deny their blood boner.

"It's still too many!"

That's what they always say when they realize that their narrative is starting to look ridiculous under actual scrutiny. How is that 5% going to "take over" countries that are still 90+% white? (In fact, it is not even 5%. It is a subset of that 5% that causes problems.)

European racists are so fragile. I live in an American town that hasn't been majority white in decades, and society hasn't fallen apart.

But to be honest I'd have said 5%, which seems to be fairly accurate.

>Good sign that maybe there are fewer transphobes out there than I expect as well.

How would you define transphobia?

Most people who I know IRL are what I'd call uninformed/unintentional transphobes. I.E. people who unironically use the word "trap" to refer to certain transgender people, people who spread edgy memes like "I identify as an attack helicopter," people who don't understand the difference between having a male body and a female brain/people who don't understand the science behind gender-dysphoria. 9/10 of these people would never support ant-transgender legislation and will more often than not refer to a trans person by their preferred pronouns when actually talking to them IRL.

In other words they enjoy edgy 2014 Ben Shapiro tier memes and share some of his views, but their beliefs are based on misinformation rather than bigotry. I don't think any of these people are a threat to transgender people, at worst they perpetuate their own ignorance, and might misgender you because they genuinely think that transgenderism is some kind of elaborate joke. Would you consider this as transphobia?

I get a bit irate and go full SJW whenever people bring up Ben Shapiro talking points in reference to transgender people. I just can't stand when people talk about serious political issues as if they were some kind of expert, despite the fact that they clearly know nothing about the subject other than what they've seen in a handful of anti-SJW videos.

>How do you think your perception of the world stacks up to reality?

I generally check my biases by looking at mainstream sources (BBC, CNN, the government, etc) that I know will be neutral at best, or will actually be extremely bised in the opposite direction.

For example if the government claims that 44.9 of people in London are "White British" (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnic_groups_in_London) you can be more than assured that at least 44.9 people in London are "White British," because the government has no motivation to exaggerate the number of minority's in the country. In fact I'd argue that the government is most likely over exaggerating the number of "White British" people in the country, to quell paranoia among the native population.

However in places like /pol/ over exaggeration of things like crime committed by minorities and the number of non-Whites in White countries is a competition. /pol/s motivations are the exact opposite of the governments, because their goal is to spread their beliefs by terrifying people through exaggerate statistics, and then offering their own philosophy as the only way to fix the worlds.

>>243148
>>243152
I agree that people who unironically think that all Black people are violent thugs, and that "(((George Soros))) is the head of a (((international conspiracy))) that directly amis to destroy the )))Aryan race((( so (((the chosen people))) can inslave all of the )))goyim(((" are delusional and not to be taken seriously. But I'd say that sticking your head in the sand, genuinely believing that all races are equal, and not at least being somewhat wary of a future where most/all White countries are overrun by Muslims and Blacks is just as delusional.

In your hypothetical example you say that "65% of X minority has committed Y crime." I don't think you realise just how significant that is, especially if only 10% Z majority commits Y crime. If X commits Y crime significantly more than Z, shouldn't Z be asking itself if X is really worth keeping around, (or importing more of) especially if they're a drain on the economy of Zs economy?

Why would Z want more people like X in their country when X commits significantly more crime and generally doesn't integrate into Zs society and contribute?

Just a little something for you to thonk about.

Personally I think that religions are based on culture, rather than vice versa. Religion is just something that's used to establish an already existing culture and strengthen its hold over the masses. It's a way of controlling and manipulating people indirectly by telling them that someone or something is watching everything they do and judging them for it, and if they don't behave in an exact way they'll be eternally punished. The government can't reliably control every aspect of everyone's life, so they rely on God to do that for them. It's just a way of asserting a specific culture though the fear of God, nothing more.

Even some of the seemingly arbitrary rules layed out by the bible, like for example the fact that you're not supposed to eat pork make sense if you look at them in their historical context. Up until recently red meats like pork were extremely dangerous and deadly because they were unsanitary, and thus caused wide spread food poisoning and disease. Up until Christianity gained traction and told people that "Jesus the messager of God says that pigs are dirty animals and you shouldn't eat them lest you become dirty, and thus incapable of ascending to heaven," people ate pork, while being completely oblivious to the horrible affects the food could cause. Again do some research and you'll find that even the most insane and arbitrary bible passages make perfect sense if you view them through the proper content.

Anyway I'm rambling, let me get to my point. So assuming their Abraham isn't a completely fictional character (which is almost definitely the case) if you went back and killed him the religion would just be attributed to someone else. Some of the fine print might be different, but the overall message would remain virtually unchanged.

Rather than the story of Abraham circumcising his sons, we'd have the story of how the devil invented the foreskin to tempt little boys to commit sin by playing with it.

When you remove one pile of arbitrary nonsense you'll just be met with another. Most people are too stupid to do what is right for the right/logical reasons, so sometimes it's necessary that an outside force ensures that they do what is right for the wrong/illogical reasons, as long as they are doing what is right. (When I say what is right I don't necessarily mean what is objective right, (assuming that there is such a thing) I mean what one group of individuals or individuals deems to be right.)

Adam was the original man according to the Abrahamic religions. Abraham was the founder of the Abrahamism, which HEAVILY influenced the Jewish, Christian, and Islamic religious (the three major Abrahamic religions)

>Not wanting to be replaced by low IQ backwards people from every corner of the thrid world makes you a far-right extremist.

I don't care if 100% of the people coming into my country aren't terrorists. All I want is to maintain my peoples culture and racial heritage.

I personally have nothing against them. (assuming that they don't hurt my people) But that doesn't mean I'm okay with the idea of my people being replaced in the country that we've lived in for millennia by people who are vastly racial inferior to us, and won't know how to, nor care to maintain the civilisation that we're so willing handing over to them.

What's wrong with wanting to maintain your peoples cultural and racial heritage without outside interference? We can help them in their own countries by trading with them and giving them aid, we can even have a positive relationship with them, but we shouldn't surrender our own heritage to them because we feel bad for their misfortune.

Firstly, you're not being replaced.

Secondly, the IQs of NATIVE northern Europeans have been falling for the last few decades. Filtering out the effects of immigrants on the overall average still shows that the upward selective pressure that used to be present among natives has vanished.

Thirdly, you fail to mention that one of the reasons so many third worlders are in Britain to begin with is because you failed to "maintain civilization" following the Second World War and faced manpower shortages that could only be made up by importing people from around the Empire (which, in itself, was one of the world's most successful cases of a people endeavoring to impose outside interference on others, and which, in many ways, led to the globalized world we live in now, for better or worse).

Fourthly, no country today has ever completely avoided outside interference. That is a foolhardy goal with a lower rate of success than full communism. Even Japan, the right-wing's fetishized fantasy land of racial purity, exists in its modern form as a result of massive outside influence.

As someone who's certainly in the fallen-from-grace bin themselves, I'd endorse humane little things like requiring the reception of certain benefits for things to require sterilization.

What I really think we need is some incentive for high-income people to reproduce and low-income to do so less. Yeah, yeah, success doesn't totally correlate with g-factor and nepotism exists, but it's exactly the opposite of what you'd expect that rich and smart people are failing to produce heirs too much in contrast to the lower ranks. We're in an information economy; you'd think there would be more selective pressure for higher intelligence specifically.

>faced manpower shortages that could only be made up by importing people

You don't think automation will undo that, rendering a larger population of lower-class people including the imported suddenly obsolete, and more of a net drain by virtue of its larger numbers? You don't think that the larger masses, by virtue of more competition for less, would face more problems this way?
We're not in antiquity; it's not a manpower economy anymore. Trump won because old white boomers were getting obsolesced by industrial changes and they knew it and were scared as shit.

If the conversation the far-right needs to have is about automation, then I wish they would have it and stop blaming immigrants for all their problems.

The housing shortage going on all over the West, for instance, is not being caused by immigrants. It is being caused by a combination of, firstly, zoning laws that artificially prevent the construction of new housing, and, secondly, by an owner class that buys up land and holds onto it as an investment.

And our fiscal deficits? Again, not immigrants. I've spoken to some people who think that France's economy is collapsing because of migrants, but when I looked at the most recent national budget numbers, I found that France spends almost as much money on youth sports as it does on migrants. Migrant spending wasn't even in the top twenty biggest expenditures. The biggest expenditures (far ahead of education and defense combined) went to "tax repayments and abatement", which I found, upon looking it up, means breaks and incentives that France gives to banks and businesses to "stimulate job creation". And who crafted such policy? Neoliberals like Macron in accordance with advisory policy papers written by German bankers and academics.

Because immigrants cause service sector growth in the places they move into, they actually result in a net gain in native jobs and tax revenue, not a net loss.

But focusing on automation and neoliberal policy isn't as much fun for /pol/ as trying to feed a race war. It would mean they would have to look closer to home for the source of their problems instead of imagining themselves as crusading truth-telling knights out to defend Europa's honor from the foreign hordes. Actual self-reflection doesn't feel so good for those who subsist on the sort of victimhood narrative that passes for "facts and logic" in those echo chambers.

It also means the boomers might have to stop dismissing everything even slightly to the left of themselves as being "socialism".

>Secondly, the IQs of NATIVE northern Europeans have been falling for the last few decades.

I know it's called dysgenic polices, like welfare that allows the poor to have as many kids as possible.

I'm not denying that our own racial character has weakened. In fact I'm advocating that we get rid of the foreign elements so we can apply positive eugenic policies to ourselves. I.E. tax cuts according to the number of children someone has rather than child support. Those who make the most money would benefit the most from these tax cuts, and thus they would have more kids.

>Thirdly, you fail to mention that one of the reasons so many third worlders are in Britain to begin with is because you failed to "maintain civilization" following the Second World War and faced manpower shortages that could only be made up by importing people from around the Empire

The original "plan," at least how it was sold to the public was to import foreign workers that would stay in the country for a few years on a limited and then leave, they didn't leave. I have no problem with foreign workers, but as I said, they never left.

>Fourthly, no country today has ever completely avoided outside interference

I'm not advocating for this. All I want is for my country to stay British. Why would this restrict our trade or interaction with other countries?

They all blend together because they're technically the same religion, Abrahamism. They pray to the same God and read the same books. The only notable difference is how they interpreted scripture.

The difference between Islam and Christianity isn't too different from the difference between Mormonism and Protestant, or Catholic.

Except you're not.

According to the last census, London's population is 59.79% white.

The next highest population is Asian at about 13%.

Meanwhile the Arabic population of London maxes out at a mere 1.08%.

Just to let you know how percentages work, even if you're below 50% that doesn't automatically make you a minority. You only become a minority if someone else has a total percentage higher than your own.

So a population breakdown of 40%/20%/20%/20% would still show the 40% population as the majority.

How are foreign elements themselves preventing positive eugenic policies?

And mass non-white immigration to the UK started with colonial residents being given citizenship on the basis that they should be considered equal citizens of the empire. This meant they could choose to settle in the UK. Was this a mistake? Or should imperial intercourse have only been allowed to go one-way?

I'm taking about an absolute majority. Besides I subscribe to the philosophy that says the higher the better. The only exception I'd make is that I wouldn't mind having an East Asian/Brahmin minority, as long as they didn't exceed 5%.

Technically they aren't. But my goal is to secure a homeland for my people, and then implement a system of positive eugenics to gradually improve the population overtime.

I'm okay with having a very small controlled minority in Britain. (Like he current Japanese system for example) My problem is when the population becomes uncontrollable, and thus potentially threatening to the natives.

Oh, I think I miscommunicated. I didn't mean to imply that EVERY foreign-born subject of the British Empire should be excluded from entry to the UK. I was just saying giving a free "get UK citizenship and entry to the UK" card to all inhabitants of British colonies is bad, because many of those people don't share the same culture as British citizens.

Most of my interactions with Muslims are coworkers and doctors I work for.

I actually find it really neat, some of the hardcore Muslim doctors really stick to their prayers during the day. Like, I went to fix one of their computers, staff said he had dipped into some side room with a prayer rug for a few moments. I thought it was kinda cool to stick to it to be honest.

Idk, my perscrption is I don't see very many Muslims people in general but the ones I have seen have been cool people really.

Yeah, most muslims tend to be cool. Just like most religions.

I mean I live just down from an Islamic school, which I think is partly why the shooting hit home for me a little.

I mean I see family's and young kids going in and out of that place all the time.

Once again, I don't agree with many of Islam's teachings or philosophies, and the fact that I often see young girls aged anywhere from 5 to 10 wearing full islamic dress and headscarfs kind of disturbs me given that headscarfs are supposed to be for preserving modesty and preventing yourself from being sexualized and here you have children young as 5 wearing them and I doubt they had much of a choice in that.

However like I said they seem somewhat friendly and keep to themselves and I have no major issues with them.

I have also worked with quite a few muslims. I grew up knowing muslim friends, one of whom currently lives in Pakistan and I speak to and sometimes skype and we talk and debate philosophy and religion and culture etc.

But yes, most muslims tend to be pretty strict when it comes to prayers and that's because the Quran and Islamic culture makes it clear that you HAVE to pray multiple times a day. You HAVE to make a trip to Mecca once in a while.

In all honestly Islam is much more cult like than religious like. Much as I disagree with it it does make for an interesting religion to study.
