American thread, but with a twist. Instead of this being about us Americans jacking off our massive cocks egos, instead I want to do an AMA for our non-american posters to our American posters.

If there is something about life in America you have been curious about, ask it here and any American poster is free to answer.

Not really. Most people say Native Americans, or Alaska Natives. Although Alaska Native is a bit of a misnomer as many of these tribes are also indigenous to western Canada.

depends on the state

certain states you can open carry any weapon you want

for example you can open carry in my state if you're fishing, hunting or camping

i dont suggest doing so though

>assault rifle

i fucking wish

unconstitutional laws that exist prohibit these

however if you wanna spend 20-20 grand for one and be on a watch list you can own one if the gun made before 1986

fact of the matter is select fire weapons should not have been banned to begin with as that is unconstitutional

but ignorance and fear tends to gain more traction

bascially anything the government owns when it comes to small arms we should have a right to

thats the entire point to the 2A

Something along the lines of that. I feel like people take liberty for granted and give so much of it away. It's kinda sad when you think about it.

In academia, Native Americans are starting to embrace, identify with, and use the term "Indian" to describe themselves. It's basically becoming less and less politically incorrect, especially as it slips into the mainstream.

It doesn't make a lot of sense, but I don't think it does us any good to think about it too much, because there's no satisfying people who engage themselves with identity politics.

Well as the late Lakota leader Russell Means pointed out, the story of being called Indians because Columbus thought he was in India is bullcrap because India was called Hindustan at that time.

It means something like children of god or something i forget exactly but its something good, not a mistake.

I found this to be an odd claim, as the name India, as in the country, comes from the Indus river, so I looked it up. He's right that Hindustan is an ancient name for the country, one that's still used for some of its Northern part today. However, at the time, Europeans named pretty much all of South-East Asia "India", so the name was definitely around for that region, and that is where he thought he'd gone, so that is why he called them that.

The other stuff is revisionist history that came about in the late 20th century, with some guy saying that it came from the Spanish "En Dios", which is kind of a stretch when there's a much easier and simpler explanation readily available.

Until recently, vermont had the loosest gun laws, and the lowest crime, now they have some of the most superficially restrictive gun laws.
You dont need to permit to carry a handgun concealed, and because hunting is big in VT you can technically open carry a rifle without getting in trouble, but if you are doing it out of season, or with out a hunting license, or at the mall, you will probably still be charged with disturbing the peace, or causing a panic, if a panic is caused.
Montpelier is basically NY jr now because VT has been the vacation home of rich NYC folks for years, so they can "get away from it all" so naturally they want to change the laws to bring "it all" with them.
>>213358
>small here means medium, medium means large, and large means "Holy shit, how could anyone possibly consume such a quantity of food in one sitting?"

We were really close, then Obama caved to privet interests. Trump stating he wants to make it legal to sell across state borders is hopeful tbh.
People rag on Trumps healthcare ideas because... Trump... but they are honestly closer to the original AHA than Obamas final product.
It already illegal to deny treatment in an ER to anyone, and we have many government programs for medical insurance such as medicaid and medicare, so you could argue we are already there, its just patchwork instead of one all encompassing law.
A single payer option would be nice, but I would want it just that, an OPTION.

The sizes here are insane. Like, in Ireland, Burger King sold this burger called a Bacon Double Cheese XL, and I know because on the rare occasion that I went to Burger King, I'd get one of those instead of a full meal because, well, it was good and it was enough to fill me up. But with a name like that, it's pretty clear that they consider it a big burger.

Here, you can get a larger version of the same burger, and it's simply called a Bacon King. Name's in line with most of their other regular burgers. It's nothing special. And it's larger than the one in Ireland was. I have to get the kids' version to get one like the one I got in Ireland. And don't even get me started on soda cup sizes, those are just fucking madness. On the bright side, if you're driving somewhere, it's easy to also bring water for the road because the things are so huge, and refills are free in most places.

I think it stems from "getting your moneys worth".
The sizes keep getting bigger because people figure to themselves "well, why would i go to McDs if at BK i get a bigger protion for the same money?"

Its the same in upscale restaurants too, till you hit that ceiling of trendiness where you just get a leaf on a plate with a line of dressing drizzled around the plate haha.

Vermont is an example of why i think in the next 20 years, we will all be able to carry, with a 10 round mag.

What funny is in VT its not illegal to possess a magazine over 10 rounds, just to buy one, so you can still buy them online, just not at the LGS.

Smart right? /)_-

I think they know there are a lot of hills for the VT boys to hide in, but honestly, their showing at the statehouse was pretty miserable. My state tried to pull that shit and we saw a showing of ~4000 pro-2a people show up at the state house to protest.

Most of the people in VT just went to get their free Magpul 30 rounder and go home haha.

But also, it depends on the size of the state.

Its a lot easier for me to drive to Providence than it is for you to get to Tallahassee. So in the case of my state, people to take an hour off work to get the the statehouse isnt so bad, where in states like NY NJ and MA taking the DAY or more off work to go protest is a lot more challenging.

Esp in places like NY and MA where the suburban and rural areas of the state are often far from places like Boston and Albany, and since working people are the ones most affected by these laws, they get the shaft.

Its why, even in my state, they will reschedule the hearings a bunch of times, last minute, so that people wont be able to make it to them.

Yeah, SC is pretty sweet, they could be better on social rights though.

>for example hartford pretty says what goes for connecticut

Problem with CT is western CT is the suburbs of NYC. Lots of people in eastern CT just plain 'ol dont pay attention to what goes on in their state or cant get to where they need to be to do something about it.

The ones who do are pretty good at it, though they are out numbered. They found a pretty cool loophole with the whole "other" thing to make 26" AR "pistols" legal. But they suffer from the same thing, where the people who are most effected by whats going on, live to far removed from it.

Plus, like FL, they had an "event" that made them feel like they "had to do something!"

Even thought the kid wasnt even from CT...

I have never thought of myself as southern. We're mid-Atlantic.

Oh yeah. In the southern part it's like crossing a magical line into Alabama. Accents change, way more rural, overwhelmingly red voting-wise. The term for it here is "Lower-Slower"

That's what my PA friends have told me. Trip to the courthouse and boom, licensed.

Need refinement. Another 4 years of our illegal governor and we'll see. I still havent found anyone who voted for her, but since the spread was about 10k votes, and its estimated she gave out about 17k illegal driver licenses, and a drivers license is all you need to register to vote... its a pretty easy puzzle to put together.
Whore.

Not much you can do to prove it.

Besides the Republican party in this state is run by people who just share memes on FB all day... They arnt likely to actually do anything.

A land invasion would've been the true atrocity for all involved.
Given a choice of death, I'd choose to be immolated near the heart of the fission blast before my nerves had time to register anything.

They rebuilt on the spots that got microwaved anyway. Detroit got plenty worse without a bomb.

Manzanar, guantanamo, abu graib, iran/contra arms deal, et al

It's an American tradition, started when Columbus first arrived and started cutting off the hands of natives.

Well, Britain and France were like, "Shit, we're broke, US gib moneys for boolets plz." and America is like, "FFS, fine." Then Britian and France were like, "Okay so we bought bullets but we're still losing." and the US was like, "Not my problem, lol." Then they were like, "If we lose we can't pay that money back." and the US was like, "Ah, fuck. Okay fine." and then started sending supply ships but Germany was like, "Lol, nope." and started sinking them, and America was like, "WTF Germany?" and Germany was like, "And another one." but accidentally blew up a passenger ship instead of a cargo ship and the US was like, "WTF GERMANY?!" and they were like, "lol, oops." while secretly DM'ing Mexico like, "Yo we'll give you guns if you kick America in the nuts." and Mexico was like, "I like the way you think, essey." but then someone ratted them out on 1910's version of Facebook and the US was like, "WHAT THE FUCK, MEXICO?!" and Mexico was like, "Eeey, it's just a prank, bro." and then the US was like, "Okay, you know what? Fuck all this, we're gonna settle this ourselves."

Then there was more of a war.
