Bicycles don't belong on the road. Period. A bike is not a car. A car has a motor and it moves fast. A bike had pedals and it moves slow.

If you ride your bike in the road you cause traffic problems and are being a complete douchebag to everyone behind you.

I'm inclined to agree, but then you also get people bitching if you drive on the sidewalk, even if it's plenty wide for it, and you have countries labeling bicycles as vehicles that belong on the road, and just blech.

Make some proper bicycle lanes. Biking is an easy, quick, and cheap way to get around that doesn't have nearly the popularity it deserves outside of a select few countries, and I think a lot of that is due to the lacking infrastructure for it.

I fucking love people who work in any kind of position where they have power over others, like if they work at the DMV, or they look over immigration papers, or whatever, and then actually go out of their way to help others. Like, it takes a special kind of caring for your fellow person to be in a position like that, dealing with idiots and annoying shit day in and day out, and then still be kind and go out of your way to help those who need it. I always expect the bored person who is annoyed by my presence when dealing with something like that, so when I actually get someone that's genuinely kind, it just blows my mind. Those people are amazing.

Thats probably because they weren't. Rogue 1 was allright, but the newset one is just plain bad full stop. Last Jedi felt like it kept jumping between different genre's every 2 minutes. I mean maybe im just not remembering the older ones all that well but im pretty sure there wasnt as much slapstick.

And the only thing the fans of it can seem to say in its defense is some weird nonsense about how "Oh, you just didn't like it because it wasn't what you expected!" And in a way, they're right. I expected it to be a decent movie, and it certainly wasn't that. Seriously though, people seem to think that being subversive automatically makes it good or clever, and that's just not true.

Indeed. i mean dont get me wrong i didnt hate the movie, it was ok to watch it just didnt feel very Star Wars. Im not a fan of the series anyway, i like the originals and have seen them umpteen times when theyre on at xmas and whatever, but it felt really stupid at times. I guess a lot of the slapstick and cutesy little creatures are somewhat Disneys fault now they own it, they probably wanted it to be a little more fun for the younger generation possibly.

The originals are by no means perfect, i mean look at Ewoks lol.

Rogue One was the best SW moviie because the Droid in that movie was fucking amazing.

Also because it basically pointed out that most of the story the original movie was built on was bullshit.

This is basically what really happened:

Rebels: "We have lost. We should give up."

Rogue Squadron: "What, fuck that. We're going anyway."

Rebels: "Oh my God you idiots."

Rogue Squadron: *fucks up the empire and retrieves the plans, sacrificing themselves in the process, handing them over to Leia*

Princess Leia: "Oh. Yes. That was all completely part of the plan I totally came up with. Here's the plans I worked hard to get. You're welcome."

Rebels: "Man, Leia is such a badass."

Mind you, I am not a dog owner, I have no interest in dogs, I do not care for them, and generally find them a bit too bothersome to ever consider as a pet.

German Shepherds seem way more aggressive, going off personal experience. Those dogs are loud and jump at you when you're trying to deliver stuff.

It is because Lucas is actually not a very good writer. In fact there is a documentary out there where he talks about how he was frustrated making the first movie because everyone kept telling him that his story and dialog was stupid.

At one point Harrison Ford read the script and literally was like, "I'm not saying this. Rewrite it or I walk."

The original movies only got the fame and acclaim they did because everyone else making the movie made his garbage script into something good.

>Grunge was the worst music trend ever

coughhair metalcough

grunge at least gave us Nirvana (yes I like Nirvana, Nevermind is a solid 8/10 album, fite me), as well as Pixies and Husker Du assuming they count, and you could make a case that Royal Trux is grunge and they made one of the greatest albums of all time (Scaruffi, pretty accurately, called Twin Infinitives "Trout Mask Replica for the grunge generation").

I'd rather listen to Pearl Jam or Alice In Chains than most of what gets radio play today but I know I will get a fedora tipped at me for that.

>Alt and indie rock are boring as shit and i dont understand why people love it so much.

I would imagine, you have either not listened to the right indie rock, or you just can't get into the more "soft" emotion of it.

indie rock, I view it almost as like the antithesis of rock in general. it strips away the machismo and replaces it with completely unrestrained genuine emotion. it's much more effeminate than almost any other rock genre and I think that gives it a bad rep from purists of the genre. I can understand why someone who grew up on shit like Metallica and Iron Maiden would not be able to appreciate Arcade Fire or Sufjan Stevens.

my mom, who is in her 50s, has told me about how awesome it was to her when grunge first became a thing, because she actually lived through the 80s, and during that time she thought 80s rock was completely garbage, so when the 90s came and grunge happened, she said something along the lines of "it felt like I could actually be a fan of rock without being ashamed."

I also agree that I should be biking on the sidewalk. However, it's illegal in most places in most cities to do so, and even where it is legal, fucking walkers are psychopaths. They'll try to kick your bike over, while swearing as loud as a police siren and telling you to "get back on the road you shithead", etc. It's really completely impossible to try to share that space with them.
And bike lanes aren't even really a thing in most places, either.
So we have to be in the road. No choice.

bike lanes are fucking deathtraps. I avoid them; I'll take the cars where they are supposed to be in their own lanes.

pedestrians are fucking nuts, they'll look you right in the eye and step right in front of you as though they think you can't kill them as good as a car can. Or they just lurch off the curb without even looking.

the worst thing is parked car doors. never ever ride close enough to be within their range.

Just ride with the cars. Speed is armor.

not where I live, they are re-assigned parking lanes and CA DMV driving instructions specifically direct drivers to merge into bike lanes to make turns.

I know a lawyer who went under a truck at just such an intersection between one of our courthouses and the commuter train station, a location I've recognized for decades as dangerous and I always merge into the cars there. There's a bit of chainlink fence there between the bike lane and the pedestrians so even if you see the car coming, you can't get away even if you dive off your bike. fuck that shit.

Yeah, no, fuck that, that's way too dangerous. The same problem was there in Ireland. It's just too dangerous to ride a bike in traffic unless you're, like, crossing a road or something. Although in Ireland, a surprising amount of the bicyclists also didn't seem to think traffic laws applied to them, which just made it more dangerous. Oh yeah, go out into the busy intersection while the light is red, that seems like a great idea, relying on those cars to stop for you isn't dangerous in the slightest.

lostpony (ID: 2bf858)  129879

>>129860
I know the cars aren't stopping for me, and I navigate accordingly.

I don't even use a light, because when cars see me they do really weird things like veer wildly or slow down and pin me into the curb and such. As long as I'm invisible, their crazy stupidness is at least somewhat manageable.

The best part is, while the law here is that bikes are basically cars, even while I'm riding as fast as the cars are driving some drivers take issue with this and will attempt to run me off the road on purpose, or open their windows and lecture me about riding where the cars are. That's what the law says I am supposed to do, and they've even in 2014 added legislation that says it's a $100 ticket to pass a bike with less than 3 feet of space in between....while I doubt most drivers even know about it and nobody's ever going to enforce it, this seems to be to establish automatic negligence when they actually do hit me because they are inside of the required legal minimum distance.

More to the point, it's important to know where the cars are. I see people riding along innocently ignoring the cars at great difference in speed like they are not two feet from two-ton steel going up to 40 mph difference in speed. That's not me, I know where those cars are at all times because my life depends on it.

Rock as a whole is pretty boring if we're being honest. That is, absent from punk and metal. Post-rock and Prog have some good albums but otherwise it's a pretty boring genre.

>Sufjan Stevens

I actually like sufjan a lot because he has aspects of his music other than just notes that i can bite my teeth into. The problem with rock in general is that it's just notes, there's nothing physical about it. What's the point of writing shit using chord progressions anyone with basic music knowledge could write in their sleep, and then just leaving it at that? I need to feel my music, not just listen to it. Textures and physical aspects >>> stringy twangy suck my wangy.

I don't even think Sonic Youth is considered "alt rock", they are more along the lines of noise rock or something, although I think they have several fantastic albums.

Soul Calibur V was a garbage game.

I don't give a shit if the mechanics were fine, it's a game from a multi-million dollar company that they rushed out the door to meet a holiday release, resulting in a product that was a quarter of what it could've been. There's no excuse for it.

If you make a game in a series and it's lesser than the ones that came before it, and you're not some small indie team working out of an apartment, you deserve to get shat on for it.

And trying to make a game to appease a subset of a subset of your potential audience (the FGC in this case) is incredibly short-sighted.

God I hope VI isn't this again.

Probably not gonna be the answer you're looking for but here goes.

I think the biggest reason I never can get or understand the appeal of most basic rock is because i didn't grow up with it. I hadn't heard a single sonic youth song until a few days ago, I have never heard a single "the smiths" song, I've never heard Brand New, I've never heard the pixies, I don't know anything by the red hot chili peppers, and truthfully I only hate grunge because I bothered to look up some songs from the trend like a few months ago and I hated them. I only vaguely know what pearl jam sounds like from I think one song maybe. I think most people love this stuff because they grow up with it and if they so choose, progressively get into weirder and weirder stuff. Me? I started with chopin, debussy, and beethoven, then grew into more obscure romantic composers, and then at around 17 went into dark ambient. I particularly remember finding this album and being totally flabbergasted at 16-17 https://kaleidarkness.bandcamp.com/album/abgzvoryathre-2 (album was taken off of youtube somehow, thank god bandcamp exists). I also got into these two albums pretty hard

The Cancelled Earth - Cities Last Broadcast (Kammarheit) - Full Album
Enemite - Wuyuan 2004

and then moved into world music and bizzare folk stuff from like mongolia and siberia.

I didn't even get into metal until 5 years ago when I listened to dopethrone for the first time, and black metal came a year later. So I guess the biggest issue isn't that I've grown numb, it's that I've always been numb from the start. I never at any point in my life have been a part of the popular music circle, without even trying to be outside of it. Even in early high school when I wasn't listened to classical I was finding obscure chiptune songs and spamming those non stop.

Surfing on a Sine Wave

So idk, I guess my point is I probably can't really adequately argue this because I don't have the tools to. What I consider boring is probably really awesome to tons of people, and I probably will never be able to unthink that.

Well, that actually explains it pretty well then.

Scaruffi has like a whole article about that, how rock doesn't tend to be as impressive to people who grew up with classical and jazz because classical and jazz pretty much always BTFO rock in terms of like...almost everything.

I'm the other way around, I grew up with pop and rock and have only gotten into classical (and jazz) in the last couple years, it's a whole other world to me.

Still though, I don't think you should write off rock just because you looked up a few songs from a few artists.

I'd have to disagree on that, and here's why.

1. You can be a fun guy when you want to, and you are a lot of the time. Even in this thread, despite you having that whole grumpy and self-deprecating attitude going, it's clear that you're just using it as a shield of sorts. You are afraid of being hurt, so you pre-empt attacks. The old cactus strategy. However, despite that, you still care enough about the people here to respond, and even to give out compliments to most people. It's clear that you're not a malicious person.

2. No, you just have a baseline grumpy attitude that you use as a deflection tool. You can fly off the handle, but it's not exactly hard to tell when you're doing that, and when you're just being tsun-tsun.

Good question tbh, im not 100% sure. Biggest thing I can think of is "it has fuzzy stuff" and it sounds spooky. Those are the things I like the most, spooky dark things and things with textures and fuzzy noises and stuff. I'm enjoying metal lately but I gotta be honest, a lot of it sounds way too similar.

It's funny because people always say "all rap sounds the same!!" but you put on practically any rapper who I have heard before and I can name who they are quickly, likewise with the beat for a song, but then when it comes to metal I constantly find myself listening to bands and thinking "wait, did I hear this one already? what makes this band/album different than this one?"

that war metal album I showed you earlier was one of the metal albums that really stood out to me because it sounds genuinely different than most other metal I've heard in a lot of ways.

War metal is a unique genre although it suffers the most from "sounds the same" syndrome.

Idk, I'm ok with stuff sounding the same because I like the formula in the first place. A lot of what separates traditional bands is subtle stuff that only adapt listeners will pick up on, and I enjoy that. Probably the same thing with a lot of standard rock, I just don't identify with it.

Since the first of this month yeah. I know, i literally am a manchild. Honestly although people call me a tard or autistic or all the other things for the reason iv'e allways acted the way i do around here... Im honestly not, i'm just a modern day Peter Pan, its just immaturity lol.

I COULD act normal and grown up and do something with my life but where is the fun in that, being silly and stupid is just far more enjoyable. Also a lot of people think im dumb, but its only half true. Im not intelligent by any means but most of the times i make huge mistakes on subjects is because i never really take an interest in much outside of my room or whats going on in the world. I am so behind on meme's and pop culture.

Don't you remember the dad going bananas trying to find a cuff link to get to some politically important social party?

As a kid i remember him being a big meanie putting the dog outside etc but he was being completely interfered with in his duties to not be ostracized from society. Those runts even drew a treasure map on his dickie. Don't get me started on the racism of the indian scene.

Wait, I guess I should put a harsh opinion in here before the thread disappears completely. Let's see...

I fucking hate the kind of internet poster who makes long posts with a bunch of obscure words in there, just to seem more intelligent than they really are. But it bothers me even more when those people are praised for posts which actually don't say anything intelligent or profound, but which people just assume must contain some fantastic wisdom, because it's long and has a bunch of big words in it, so it must be so fucking smart.

Ponychan had a fucking plague of that shit at one point, years ago, and it made coming here pretty much unbearable when every thread contained a dick-measuring contest between a bunch of tryhard pseudo-intellectuals spouting utter gibberish.

Were you around when The Wastelander was there? It wasn't necessarily that what he said was dumb, but it was packaged in so much unnecessary bullshit that any actual message got totally lost in the process.
