Last night the idea for a PChan movie night Discord came up in a discussion. Would anybody be interested in such a thing? Streaming a media player through Discord is very quick and convenient, plus being in a voice call allows for some riffing if the movie happens to be particularly cheesy. It also gives the option for a separate muted call for those movies that'd you'd prefer everyone just be quiet and listen to.
I'd say it should be strictly used as a place to organize and stream viewing events, and should be open for anyone to stream a movie/show they may want to watch with others.

Hehehe, I know you can be a good conversationalist when you get into it.
Still, the idea isn't for it to really be used as a social hub, just a place to watch movies/shows. That's why I'm thinking we should even have a quiet channel, if you don't want to talk while it's playing.

Tbh I already watch a lot of movies both by myself and with like three other people on a regular basis so I don't want to commit to a movie night but then just bail almost every time because I'm already exhausted from movie watching.

So I'll say, I fully support the idea, I'm just not sure if I'll be involved with it.

Ah, there's a thread on the subject already.

I'm the one who kind of bumbled into the topic coming up last night, cause watching movies together with people helps make it easier to talk about stuff, imo.

Also I've got a few movies/shows on DVD that aren't really easy to find anymore that I at least think are good.

So I'm definitely for something that lets us set up movie nights myself.

Definitely think it's important to keep the Discord just for stuff the site can't do though, especially cause...I dunno, I like that on image boards you can tell who is responding to you and stuff, where sometimes real time text chat programs can get more chaotic to make sure you're not missing stuff?

Gotta figure out that right balance.

Probably should, though, hopefully the expectations will be that generally we follow more of /chat/ rules for what's acceptable to say to others.

Like I don't mind if /ef/ wants to have less restrictive streams that are advertised that way somehow from the start, but there's a lot of really potentially hurtful stuff that's maybe kind of common to say as a joke on /ef/ that I'm worried might keep various of friends from feeling comfortable joining in streams.

Or also make me uncomfortable with streaming stuff for people, not because most of it necessarily really applies to me but...some of the language just seems really disrespectful to other people and I'm not very comfortable interacting with people who can't resist disparaging others that way...especially if we're supposed to be having a good time watching a movie or something.

I think the idea will be to have the server follow the global rules, rather than /ef/ rules. Just makes more sense that way, since it wouldn't be an /ef/ server, but rather a PChan server.
I just think running it by /ef/ could bring in a few more interested posters.

Yeah and it'd be weird to just leave them out of the discussion because we only talked about it on /chat/.

Since if we do end up having one it should be something every user of the site should feel welcome to join in on. Especially since going forwards we'll hopefully get new people showing up and sticking around the various boards.
