unironically an addiction
everything about CoD is designed to heighten your adrenaline and make you want to keep playing
almost everything you do has some kind of reward that makes toughing out shitty matches feel "worth it"
the satisfaction of going on a massive killstreak, or getting a multikill, or unlocking a good camo, or reaching a high rank reward, or completing dozens and dozens of challenges for rewards (calling cards, emblems, etc.). not to mention the grind for rewards on the battle pass.
every time I think "that's IT, I am fucking DONE with Black Ops Cold War" I want to play again within two weeks, without fail. Another factor is the constant updating of the game--rotating playlists/new modes, new maps, new weapons, new battle passes, new character skins to unlock, etc.
although ironically, after I finally unlocked that gold camo and just started playing in a much more relaxed state, I started tearing shit up. The final attachment you get for guns in the game, which is the thermal scope, is just...amazing. And the reason its amazing is because enemy visibility in the game is very, very poor. If someone is even remotely far away from you, or camping in a good spot, they are really hard to see normally, but the thermal scope makes it incredibly easy to see literally anyone even if just a third of their body is peeking around a corner halfway across the map. It's a GIGANTIC advantage.
