After watching the episode three times, taking notes on the last time for this express purpose I wasn't sure I wanted to write this anymore. I feel... content. The series finale has aired. Twilicorn was known beforehand and I don't have the strength or will to riot over it anymore. Despite how the episode breaks things left and right, I'm tired but content. Now it is clear the show will become something else with this, and I have my closure and can kiss the show goodbye. The ride has been fun, but I guess the ride has to end sometime.
That being said, I wanted to write something about the episode in the end. If for no other reason than me getting my peace. Without further ado, it's time for the last hurrah.
* Such a grand opening... Anyone else find themselves reminded of the very beginning of the Heart Carol?
* How come this day is so special Twi wants to sing about it?
* "My Ponyville?" You're not a princess yet, darling~
* Dancing on tables totally acceptable.
* First song, Morning in Ponyville: OK, but there were some weird choices, imo. Also kind of a weird way to start an episode. Not my favourite of the bunch, but okay.
* Weather control is apparently not a pegasus-only thing, after all! Excuse me?
* Is nopony else working on the weather?
* Animal chaos! Also, Harry in the house!
* What's Scratch doing in Ponyville?
* Heh, Pinkamena returns. She looks a lot cuter with her hair down.
* Ponies get sunburn --> coats turn red? Do they lose all their hair or does it shine through all that or something?
* Second song, What My Cutie Mark Is Telling Me: Better. A lot better. Parts of it sound like just speaking over music, though, not singing, especially Pinkie and AJ. That said, I really like the way the part with "it's got to be my destiny, and it's what my cutie mark is telling me" goes. I also like how the part that gives Rarity vibes is actually AJ's part and the one with AJ vibes is Pinkie's, for obvious reasons. A good song despite parts of it being spoken rather than sung.
* Seven hour bubblebaths, huh. Oh Spike... Must be fun being a dragon and being able to just warm the water again and again...
* Elements randomly activating >.>
* Huh... So, she changed the Elements, which changed the cutie marks of the Bearers? I guess my theory about their cutie marks representing their Elements isn't too farfetched, huh?
* Twi confirmed for having used a memory spell in
RoH to return them to normal. If we only knew what kind of spell that was, now...
* "Their true selves have been altered." I really don't like this. There are things magic shouldn't be able to do.
* Twi got real sad for fucking up her friends. I do like that.
* Either there was a time skip so everything's fucked up, all of reality has been rewritten so things are in shambles or something completely different?
* Third song, I've Got to Find a Way: It's different. Starts out strong, could be more than it is. Not that bad, though.
* Spike is the one to cheer Twi up and gets her to act.
* That picture! It's actually a thing! That makes me more happy than it should!
* Suddenly Twi shines and gets sparkles in her eyes. Also, how come there were six little sparks around the big star? Doesn't Twi's mark have just five? What's this mean?
* I have absolutely no idea how Twi came up with that idea...
* Silver bits! The first I remember seeing them, at least.
* "I don't really know anything about animals..." Oh Fluttershy, let me hug you :3
* Animals want to eat RD... wat
* Flutters rediscovering her talent does feel good.
* >tfw you will never hold Fluttershy in your (bear) arms and gently kiss her forehead
* Life flashing in her eyes. Such a good way to show she is getting her memories back, and also give me something to do sometime trying to identify the scenes.
* Everyone instantly gets the plan. Clearly they still remember what happened when they were changed.
* "Pinkie!!!"
* Why is everypony singing with them?
* Fourth song, A True, True Friend: Best song of the episode. It's good, it's catchy, it drives the plot forward. Yeah, it's repetitive, though, and the lyrics aren't that imaginative, I guess, but it's good. I like how some characters still have their distinct styles in the song, and this time they are used with the appropriate characters, unlike in that earlier one. I also like how they join the song one after another. It kind of builds momentum and gains power as it goes on. This would have been an awesome song to end the episode on. Shame that didn't happen. Wouldn't call this the next Winter Wrap Up, but it is catchy.
* 13 minute mark, the conflict has been resolved already and the song that would have been a great thing to end on is already done. Sigh...
* Suddenly Twilight realizes out of nowhere!
* Happy Pinkie bounce!
* Twi blew up! Show's over, it's done! Also, i like the reactions.
* "Congratulations, Twilight. You've made it to the Twilight Zone." What the heck was that place, though?
* Scenes from earlier episodes. I guess it's supposed to show how Twi has grown. It kind of does that, yeah.
* Celestia lookes a bit weird when she rose in the air with her forelegs spread out...
* Fifth song, Celestia's Ballad: Okay. Not bad, but different. Not very catchy, but kinda pretty. Forgettable.
* The word alicorn canonized to mean winged unicorns without a doubt. Also wings... Twi was kinda surprised about them, too.
* Everything stops for a Pinkie gag... Twice. Not good, not at all. The spittake would have been funny in the background, but not with it being focused on.
* "Charity, Compassion, Devotion, Integrity, Optimism and Leadership" Elements of princesshood?
* "We are all your students now" and everyone bows... Not a fan of this. Not at all.
* New dresses! I absolutely love Fluttershy's new dress!
* Sixth song, Behold, Princess Twilight Sparkle: No. I guess it technically isn't a song, but I didn't like it.
* Twi gives credit to her friends. Good job, Twi.
* Liquid pride
* Seventh song, Life in Equestria: Not a fan. More of the same as the first song but I didn't like this as much, and I didn't really like the first one that much, either.
* Dərpy! Cloudchaser and Flitter! No Rose in all of season 3...
* Twi already flies like a pro, huh?
And that's the episode, there. The episode itself wasn't terribad, but the way it messed with things makes it bad in my opinion. It had too many songs and some were cut short because of this. They could have easily cut some of them, but I guess the point was to make this kind of a musical episode, or something. I feel it would have worked better with some other episode, as there was already a lot to fit into this one.
