I'm curious if anypony else has any music from some of these lesser known musical genre's?

- UK Garage/Future Bass
- Ghetto House/Juke
- Trap Music

They aren't exactly well popularized in many areas, so if the thread slowly dies I won't be upset. Thanks!

(I'll leave one here for ya in case you want a sample)

This'd be trap music. It sound a lot like what you might hear on (insert famous rapper)'s album, except we have subtracted the arguably worthless rapper anyways, and kept the beats :)

Awesome thread! There was some sort of a ghetto house/juke revival last year. Room(s) by Machinedrum is a good album that came out of that. Here's a sample from it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82t_wZlV_3k

Uk Garage/Future Bass or whatever that kind of stuff is called is also still going strong, a shitload of good singles coming out of that scene. Especially stuff on Hessle Audio is great! Blawan, Objekt, James Blake before he started with that boring singer-songwriter-ish stuff

Here's Getting Me Down from Blawan, this such a big tune! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIkhewd69SE

A beat, just not sung on. How's that qualify for a genre in your eyes? Except for, I take it, your not a big fan of rap?

Yeah, if anything that would qualify as instrumental hip-hop. Also as soon as I clicked that trap music soundcloud link and I saw these weird letter thingies I got an uncontrollable urge to turn it off. Why can't people use normal letters? That shit annoyes me since the witch-house people started doing it with all their triangles and shit.

'trap' is a genre, I didn't make it up myself lol

I honestly haven't gotten into it but apparently it isn't new either. And no, I'm not big on rap. Also I did find the 'music' to be a little more than just some background beats one would rap-over in that they have inherent musical value to my ears. Did you listen to the soundcloud profile I linked?

>>9938
Awesome, thanks!

>Uk Garage/Future Bass or whatever that kind of stuff is called is also still going strong

We dont' get a lot of it here where I am at, across the pond (Florida). You can find it if you look for it venue-wise but I only know of two places that advertise that they play it and both nights are weeknights. I'm not saying it isn't big but it isn't big-enough to be well known in this area by a consumer crowd. The DJ's and Musicians are of course familiar and do slip in a track here or there.

Let me add to that.

I rather enjoy the 'instrumental hip hop' or 'trap' or whatever you wish for it to be called in that there isn't somebody rapping about making crack pies and effing hoes and running train on somebody's woman and then shooting insert-derogatory-term

wow

don't worry Cage, maybe if we give him something like MF Doom we can cure him of these delusions that thuggish, misogynistic Rap Hip-Hop isn't one of the most important advances in modern creative expression. Then we can give him some Black Milk, Curren$y, El-P and Kendrick Lamar to knock some sense into him.

Trap Rap: Form of hip hop characterized by beats with high-pitched synthesizers (often imitating brass or orchestral tones) and hard, frequently polyrhythmic 808 drum machine lines at moderate to slow tempos with fast hi-hats as counterpoints. The term 'trap music' was coined by T.I. with his 2003 album Trap Muzik; as he describes it, the 'trap' is "basically where drugs are sold." Accordingly, in 'trap music', images and descriptions of the drug-dealing lifestyle are invoked heavily.

From http://rateyourmusic.com/genre/trap+rap

Sounds like instrumental hip-hop and trap rap are different genres, unless you're talking about something else. That said, I haven't heard much instrumental hip-hop outside of J Dilla, Nujabes, and RJD2. That song you linked to wasn't bad, OP.

The reason I mentioned and requested is because I wanted to hear more. Please don't insult my 'musical taste' in a thread requesting more of certain genres that I don't think I've heard enough of yet and have come to ponychan requesting more examples of so that I might hear more.

Thread isn't even about my musical tastes. Its about requesting some lesser known genres.

>delusions that thuggish, misogynistic Rap Hip-Hop isn't one of the most important advances in modern creative expression

Now I'm slightly insulted, lol. Whatever, read what you want to read, don't expect me to take you seriously for adding your own content to mine and then acting like its all mine to begin with.

Oh I understand, you got your jimmies rustled.

Because you got upset you took some liberties with the message and made implications.

Don't worry, there are several 'rap groups' and 'rappers' I have enjoyed before and would still enjoy today. I find many of them quite talented. Often the message is very 'real' though it is rarely positive in my experience.

However the ones/themes I described I don't particularly enjoy. I already know how to cook a crack pie by now and I remember at least 3 of the 10 of the crack commandments.

You'll excuse me disengaging with you about this further I hope we can chat about something else.

So what is it going to take to get you to go away or leave? I don't see how you are contributing, or that you have a point to make other than attempting to antagonize me.

Will you feel better if you feel you have 'won' ? Some people are like that, lets give it a shot.

Hi Cage, I'm Graham, and I'm sorry but you were 100% right and I was 100% wrong. You are correct, I'm a retard. I'm ignorant. I obviously know nothing about music.

Thanks for enlightening me and putting me in my place. I'm glad you are here to correct me and show me the way. I'm sorry for having ever instilled within you the desire to antagonize me: completely my fault.

You win.

There - are you satisfied at this point? Feel better about the situation and better about yourself? Is there anything else I can do to further satisfy the needs that I created by instilling within you and all of the knowledgeable music world the desire to antagonize myself?

What the hell.... you'll have to enlighten me, the last time I bought an album '____-core's were not widely known genres and didn't have special '____-core' sections in the music aisle.

That would be emo-core, metal-core, screamo-core I think is one, and I guess now crab-core.

The only 'core' I am actually familiar with as a purchasing consumer would be 'hardcore' which as I understand it has an even different meaning for today's younger generation than it did when I was their age.

Crab Core is a joke genre they made up on /mu/

Whats worse is it's now listed as a serious genre by some.

The joke is you can change nothing in a genre and call it a new genre. Trap is literally Instrumental Hip Hop. Instrumental Hip Hop is Hip Hop production without rappers.

It's basically crab core imo.

Here's some moombahton! I'm really not sure how to describe the genre other than bass heavy dance music with a strong latin american aspect.

From Wiki ~

Moombahton
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
Moombahton
Stylistic origins Reggaeton, House music (primarily Dutch house or electro house)
Cultural origins March 2010 Washington, D.C.
Mainstream popularity Low to moderate mainstream presence from 2011 to present.

Moombahton is a fusion genre of house music and reggaeton that was created by American DJ and producer Dave Nada (born David Villeagas) in Washington, D.C., in the fall of 2010. Musically, moombahton is essentially Dutch house or electro house at the tempo of reggaeton (usually 108- 112 beats per minute) with reggaeton influenced drum and percussion elements. Other features include "thick basslines, dramatic buildups, a two-step pulse, and quick drum fills."

No I really can't. I've seen your posts on here and half the time you act like a completely obnoxious douche. Not to mention it's incredibly disconcerting that you completely disregard my argument because of my taste in progressive rock. Logic has nothing to do with your musical taste. Stop judging people's intelligence by what bands they listen to or how similarly they draw their arbitrary lines between genres in comparison to yours.

Look up a little piece called Aurora Awakes on youtube. Here, in fact I'll post it here for you. The composer of this piece, John Mackey, is an example of a very very successful musician. He's won many awards for this beautiful piece alone, and even more for some of his less popular compositions. Guess who his favorite band is?

Tool.

By your logic, his apparent credibility should be zipping away just like mine. Is it?

But lots of great songs between Opiate, Undertow, and Ænima. Still remember the lyrics to most *lol*
