Maybe by technical definition but I refuse to believe they are metal (somewhat how I refuse to believe Legend of Zelda Philips CDI games exist. Reality denied, substitute my own).

Never really liked just how broad a range Nu Metal encompasses. Limp Bizkit, Slipknot, and if Im correct Korn are all labeled as nu metal but their sounds really vary. Slipknots last album was borderline thrash metal.

I wouldn't worry too much about SOPA. Even if it were passed as is(that won't happen), .com,net and .org domains are expressly immune to any of its provisions; considering how many sites operate under those three domains, SOPA is largely toothless at this point. Right. You have fun in the Hold Hands Metal Club. I'll be listening to music that isn't a rehashed attempt to ride on Running Wild's coattails with annoying synth abuse added in and deviantart worthy lyrics. Oh, and that "ninja metal" crap takes it to the next level, which basically means vomitrociously unmetal.

Oh, and for the record, I stated quite clearly that there was more than one metal artist of merit mentioned. Saxon, Dream Theater, Anvil, and Master are all perfectly respectable bands. Drone isn't bad, ignoring that it's for casuals. Djent is an excercise in jam packing metal with god tier levels of aggressive boredom, so I'm not impressed.

Machinae Supremacy and Ayreon aren't metal, though they are good rock.

Crusty, raw, melodic, impenetrable wall of noise and shrieking, cacophanous vocals that don't get bored or overruled by the immense wall of white noise and pulse energy!

I came in to Blut Aus Nord about a year ago after listening to Memoria Vetusta II. Then Sect(s) came out...oh my god. It was my favorite album of 2011 alongside Desanctification. I'm not a big AC/DC fan, but I still enjoy listening to them from time to time...And I must say that it does sound similar, though I like better the vocals in that one...I've never been able to get used to the voice from the guy in AC/DC (I can't remember his name...)

Pretty good...Wait...They're from Chile (where I was born, what a coincidence..)...Yay! It's nice to see more good bands coming from there, since they aren't really easy to find.

Anyway, I'll leave this here.

I was of the same mind, then I heard some of their stuff. I think it's their fans, they all just seem...lame? I hate to use the term but everyone I know who likes Mastodon is the kind of person who thinks Godsmack is "true metal". But Mastodon is a pretty cool band, hell they have an album that's basically Moby Dick in metal form. I mean shure Ahab did that too, but sometimes Funeral Doom is just...I dunno. Both bands have their merits and I listen to them both for different reasons. Also I love all the viking metal up ins. I'm gonna see if I can't find some Finntroll.

yeah, I have been getting back into listening to metal regularly. I need to dig back into my Jazz too, I saw a vinyl of Johnny Hartman and John Coltrane in the store today and it was really tempting me. I'll probably get it tomorrow.

as far as metal, I have been binging hard on Discordance Axis. They really work hard to make Grindcore fun, even if it is mathy and technical.

I just can't get enough of it!

I also went back to
>this album
which was really refreshing and I love the composition of the album and favour it to all of their other releases. Been so long and I have good memories of this record.
