Never really liked just how broad a range Nu Metal encompasses. Limp Bizkit, Slipknot, and if Im correct Korn are all labeled as nu metal but their sounds really vary. Slipknots last album was borderline thrash metal.

Oh, and for the record, I stated quite clearly that there was more than one metal artist of merit mentioned. Saxon, Dream Theater, Anvil, and Master are all perfectly respectable bands. Drone isn't bad, ignoring that it's for casuals. Djent is an excercise in jam packing metal with god tier levels of aggressive boredom, so I'm not impressed.

Crusty, raw, melodic, impenetrable wall of noise and shrieking, cacophanous vocals that don't get bored or overruled by the immense wall of white noise and pulse energy!

I came in to Blut Aus Nord about a year ago after listening to Memoria Vetusta II. Then Sect(s) came out...oh my god. It was my favorite album of 2011 alongside Desanctification. They just totally outdid themselves and mastered their craft of winding dissonant soundscapes and I am very expectant of their next release, Cosmosophy.

Yeah, I am a lot of blogs most of the time picking up all sorts of weird stuff and Attila The Hun is a great place for Black Metal.
A few other cool places are Cosmic Hearse, The Living Doorway, Illogical Contraption, ...allyouneedisjizz, Jazz Archive and Spreading Neurotoxins are all frequent spots I pick up things when I am not using google to scout things out with (which hasn't been working as of late). Most of my favorite records appear on these blogs anyway so it's all good

  Meshuggah is an amazing musical force. They continually refine their sound and progress musically, in ways that truly make them a musical evolution and the future of metal.
Take any two of their given albums and compare them. I guarantee you at least half the riffs won't be entirely the same. They even change their tempo sometimes.

  On a serious note, you all need to check out Dodecahedron right now. They're doing something seriously interesting with black metal, and frankly I think this is the first time that music has legitimately spooked me. If you ever wondered what djent might sound like if it weren't a pretentious affront to true metal, look no further.
