I know that not everypony on ponychan is old enough to attend all of the local music events put on by local musicians/artists/DJ's, but I wanted to ask if any of you do support or are looking forwards to supporting your local music scene?

What I mean by that, is local artists. People that live in and around you (relatively speaking), venues that charge a dollar or a few dollars rather than peddle 15 dollar concert tickets via the radio.

The 'little guys' if you will.

Do any of you actively support your local music scene? If so, how? If not, why not, and why do you prefer what you prefer over your local talent?

pic related, Thee Joker and Julio, both local artists and involved heavily in the local scene, outside of a local venue called 'FUBAR' on a tuesday not long ago - where I will be attending again here again shortly in about six or seven hours. We are renting an additional 30,000 watts for tonight, on top of the in house system. Its gonna be awesome!! let me see if I can find a pic of that system the last time we had it...

ah here we go

notice the speakers had to be strapped down to the speakers, lol

This is just the DJ booth from the front, theres lots of other speakers to either side as well.

This would be Subpirate in the picture, yet another local.

My local music scene sucks, all it is are shitty 'hardcore' groups and... Well, remember that group 'The New Boyz'? They had the single, 'Jerk'? They're from here.

we've got a lot of deathcore and Post hardcore bands near where I live

Excyde, Rise from the Fallen, Blinding are some local bands I love seeing often, especially Excyde, since they're diverse, like they go from Deathcore to Metalcore to some Black Metal-ish stuff

I remember buying a CD from a gas station attendant who w.orked at a Gas station and was trying to kick start his band at the same time.

Could never place my ear on what kind of genre it was.

Admittedly I'm not very knowledgeable in the local scene here, but the record store I go to usually has some good folk singers. I should really check out the local section next time I go.

I'm glad we don't have shitty hardcore bands everywhere, that must really suck.

The rapper Classified, and Singer songwriter Joel Plaskett are probably the only artists with decent recognition from around here.

Well, special guest 'Megalodon' was.... special.

He was good, but, he was also unprofessional. I can't say I was impressed with the job he did, but there were some saving graces in the music.

Megalodon is unprofessional and if you ever get the chance to have him as a guest at your venue, advise you select someone else unless you enjoy multiple cancels and people showing up unprepared and having to assemble their set just minutes before getting on and bogarting the decks all night for nearly three hours when the set was supposed to be just a little over an hour tops.

Everyone else was great. Much love to my local talent!

I think I remember explaining the scene here well enough. Devin Townsend, Mitochondrion, Reaver, one of my buddy's is in Atrous Leviathan, Unleash the Archers, Miles Black, my Piano teacher Walter Martella just released an electronic Jazz house techno kind of collaborative album with another local guy who does the electronics and percussion, it sounds really good, lots of metal going on around Victoria way, Nihilate, Archspire, just a lot of those guys, all of the Jazz seems to be happening in Vancouver though. :(

Glad to see some of you are actively participating/aware of what local talent is available!

Keep supporting local artists and talent, everypony :)

My rule of thumb is... if I can't shake their hand and thank them for coming out, for playing great music for everyone, then they don't need my help (monetarily or literally as in promoting them or their shows)

Only 14, still in the know of all the local dubstep, DnB, and house. I find that the little guys make some much better music than those guys who make $100,000 a night pushing play without the synthesizer even plugged. I can't stand listening to artists/DJ's who are so damn full of themselves.

Post-hardcore, pop-punk, and folk are about all they play in my area. Sure I could go up to Portland, but all they play up there is metalcore and sludge. Oregon is a awful state for the working musician who wants to play anything even vaguely experimental.

I am part of the local music scene!

I love my local music scene, but then hailing from Seattle it's pretty hard to hate on my music scene. Fuck, we've got Wolves in the Throne Room, Earth, Buring Witch, Modest Mouse, Ill Cosby, The Melvins, The Fastbacks, Book of Black Earth, Himsa, Sunn O))), The Murder City Devils and shit-tons more.

I just can't go to enough shows.

Also I totally forgot about the 206's amazing hip-hop scene.

So yeah, I love my local scene. And I love the little bars where I can hear some dude do strange ass things with a guitar for a buck or two.
