And I am a little unsure as to what to suggest. He says he likes indie, but that's a problem, because I'm more inclined to give him shit like Kishi Bashi or Deerhunter or something like that. I was thinking of shit like Deathcab or something really tame, but even then I'm really not sure. This is a guy who thought Kiss was hardcore and said he didn't like black metal because it was too, and these are his words, "Screamo". Same with crust punk or anything else hardcore I tried to show him. Help me get this dude into liking music from this decade, I know you magical motherfuckers can do it. Is it possible to make a song entirely out of bird sounds? And i don't mean one of those parody 'Remixes', I mean a full song with birds' sounds, no beat or bass in the background.. pure natural sweet tweets. Last edited at Sat, May 18th, 2013 03:26 |

Then I noticed, she was invited to do a TED Talk. I thought... wow okay, now I'm interested. I was really surprised by what she had to say, and her story. It was quite captivating and the ideas and stories she put forth, really intriguing. So I figured I would share it, and also: Amanda Palmer general thread. Anyone have any music of hers you like or want to share? Or just general comments. Next post will be the video from TED. I'd like to hear some other people's opinions. |
18089EP's of 2013While we have people scrambling around in May already calling out what they think is their "Album of the Year," why don't we give a little attention to the often overshadowed EP's that have come out this year? In helping with my college's radio station's New Music Committee, I've come across some real beauties. New band, old band, genre--doesn't matter. Let's post some great EP's! Only requirement is that they're from this year. I'll start: >Nude Pop - Splintered Selves EP A really inventive debut, some great guitar work on this one. Last edited at Wed, May 8th, 2013 09:22 |

18003The Historian, HimselfNormally I'm not much of a rap fan, but I think this guy deserves more recognition. His lyrics are epic—like the dictionary definition, not just by the internet's meaning of, "totally awesome." They're definitely that too, though. Take a listen. |
I have downloaded two mp3 files, both being AcousticBrony's Crepuscularity. They have the same bitrate and stuff, but the number of samples, also the size differs a tiny wee bit. One is from soundcloud, the other one is from the MLP music archive. I can imagine soundcloud messing with the uploaded file, and also the other one being ripped from anywhere. Question is, how can I decide which one is more "original", closer to sound "realistic", when I don't really hear the difference? I know I shouldn't be so audionuts over this, but I am curious and want to preserve. Thanks! |

17879Daft Punk RAMSo this aired on Saturday Night Live tonight. Some people are angry for the reason that Pharrell Williams (who is a rapper) is participating in this album. Which I don't mind at all, since I think his voice fits quite well with the song. Nile Rodgers seems to be having a good time as well. Thoughts? Are you getting this album when it comes out? Are you not? |

music exams are coming up this thursday and i just realised that i have to analyse this piece of music("shipwreck blues"). I'm not much of a music literate, i do play guitar and i understand tact, bpm and stuff like that but that is about the extent of it. i don't know if any of you are music buffs or just interested in blues, but if you are i could really use some info on some of the following points. >instruments used in the song(this is the one that is really bugging me since i cant be entirely confident in my ear for music and i cant find a list of instruments) >composition/form of the song(i have heard that many blues songs have similar composition so a general guideline for how blues is structured would very helpful as well) >general information and facts about bessie smith or the song >general info about blues >anything that makes this song stand out from other blues songs >any addition … |

So anyway to kick things off I'd like to introduce you guys to Hail, a finish Black Metal band who are as raw as they are obscure. I picked this album up a few days ago at Eternal Warfare Fest, and I've been in love with it ever since. It's a fantastic blend of ugly, raw, repulsive traditionalist black metal, and atmospheric, post-rock-esque cascadian black metal. The version I'm uploading is a rip from the Pesanta-Urfolk reissue, as it has some extended cuts, and a few great bonus tracks. Maybe you have a favorite sad song that shares a theme of death or a love that is lost, or something else that has touched you in a significant way. Or maybe the song you have in mind starts off with a sad theme and then becomes happy in the end. Sometimes those songs are most beautiful. Or perhaps a song on your mind may not have any meaning in particular, but the emotion of the song affects you in a way that makes you feel a deep emotional experience. I really want to hear what you enjoy. Thanks. NoneAll metal sounds the sameIt doesn't matter the genre or the technical details. It's always verse chorus verse chorus guitar solo that overshadows the band chorus interlude end guitar gets all thd attention. the vocalist always screams, sings about hard life, about a girl, or religion. it just sounds the same all the time. |

Well with /vinyl/ reset I figure it's a good time to make this thread. If you can't tell by the title itself, this is my formal goodbye thread, for /vinyl/ and /chat/. I've been kicking this idea around in the back of my head since a week or so after Disc did his, and I think it is time for a break from this site. While I don't have as grand of a reason as Disc did, I still think it might be my time to bow out as well. I've been on this site, more or less, since the original MLP purge of /co/, and I have enjoyed my time here quite a bit. /vinyl/ in particular, has been somewhat of a home for me on the internet in the year it has been in service. I remember a lot of things from our early days. I remember how bad /phoenix/ was, with all of it's Brostep and DnB threads. I remember the day vinyl was put into the board list. I mean, I feel too passionately about my music and I get all plebian for it. I mean I like Explosions in the Sky for fuck's sake, I shouldn't like them because of how boiler-plate they are, but fuck if The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place gets me right in my emotions. I can't help but like it for the emotional journey it takes me on. /vinyl/ seems to be really fucking good at separating themselves from their music. And if it's anything it seems to be more along the lines of amazement rather than...the shit I feel. I mean, I listen to folk-punk, not because I'm trying to be patrician, but because I genuinely love it and it makes me laugh, cry and everything in between, even though I know it's supposed to be shit-tier music because of how...imperfect it is.
