Can you guys help me see whats wrong? is it the anatomy, the lighting? the way the clothes are drawn?

no flow, just a straight line from head to right leg, left arm is a straight line into sword. left leg is shorter than right, instead of being bent naturally. feet are planted solidly and on the same horizontal line killing any action there. torso follows another straight line between feet.

on the swordplay side; when drawing a sword, you'd want the mouth to be at least past your hip to prevent cutting your clothes/self. you'd also bend the arm holding the scabbard so you can pull it out naturally (especially with a straight sword) at around hip level.

basically, in any "freeze frame" kind of pose, there should be tension in the figure. i shifted the torso a little back to balance it more, but also lifted the right shoulder (and correspondingly tilted the hips). the tilt also allows you to raise the rear foot, which gives a feel of the figure's weight moving forward onto the planted front foot. the head also leans forward (yours is leaning backwards) more to again give a forward movement. basically you should be able to draw a line that follows the body line in a series of curves.

here's a drawing from long ago that should give you a good idea of body lines.

wow thank you!

you know, for some reason I did not notice the flaws in the structure until you pointed them out.

I will definitely correct these things on my next drawing.
